Armed Teachers

A popular debate topic in todays world is weather or not teachers should be allowed to open/concealed carry during school. In short my answer is yes, I believe this would be a good idea but with stipulations of course. I think that ex-milliary teachers and teachers who allready have a concealed carry permit should be allowed to bring their side arm if they would want to, I also think that if they do bring THEIR gun it should stay with THEM at all times and never leaving the holster unless absolutely needed.

I also believe there should be a limit on which teachers would be allowed to partake in this, for example they have to show proof of paper work for both the weapon and permit and they should be evaluated on how they react in high stress situations. The last things we want is more risk of someone shooting up a school because every teacher is carrying a gun. If this were put into place the teachers would be kept secreat so the students cannot get ahold of the weapons or target certain teachers and I think it should only be offered to ex-millitary because they would react appropately in a crisis situation and take out the threat in a timely manner because they have training.

Do you think teachers should be allowed to conceal carry?

Do you think that teachers would react appropriately?

  • I think teachers should be able to have a concealed carry as long as they have a permit and know what their doing. I also believe that if they allowed teachers to conceal carry they have to make sure they they can handle high stress situations and make sure they are only using it for proctection for themselves and others. I also think it would be a good idea that no student could know what teacher chooses to conceal carries.

    • I agree, I think that ex-millitary would be the best because they have the most training with both weapons and high stress environments

  • Well it depends on which teacher it is like you said because you need a permit and you need to know how to use it correctly and not everybody knows how to. I'm not sure how some teachers would react, but I know how some would react and that would most definitely be appropriate, like only using it to protect their students and themselves.

    • I agree certain teachers would be allowed with no exceptions because that is the only way you could insure saftey for both students and other staff

  • I believe that teachers should have the option to carry a gun with them ,but only if they have a concealed carry permit. Also the teacher should have a safe and unknown spot where they could put the firearm. I think it would help ensure people's safety at school.  You can't really know what the teacher would do in the situation so I have no clue if the teachers would react appropriately. I do think that the teachers know their jobs to keep kids safe, therefore I think more likely it would be used appropriately.

    • I disagree with the idea of putting the firearm somewhere because then its just like having a gun safe at home, there good for storage but if you needed to get to it right away like if your being robbed/shot at its locked away and you now have to try and unlock your gun. Also like a gun safe its way easier for a kid to get a gun when its not within an adults sight line at all times. If it in a holster its impossible for anyone but the person carrying to get it because you'd litteraly have to yank it off their waist

  • I do believe teachers should have the option to carry a gun only if they are certified to have that gun and are able to use it in only appropriate conditions. People can argue that having armed teachers can be dangerous if the right is abused, who knows what kind of person they are with a weapon and who knows if they know how to properly use the weapon. With teachers being able to be armed can scare students, if that student isn't comfortable with it then it can definitely affect the way that student feels in that class and if they feel safe or not.

    • I dont want anyone nor myself to feel unsafe, this is why I belive it should be ex-millitary or ex-cop because they have gone through extensive high stress and weapons training. Another good idea would be for them to take a polygraph and ask them specific questions.

  • I agree with what you said and how they should be allowed to but not every teacher and they should have to have the permit and they should be evaluated by someone. I also agree with not letting the students know because of the fact that they could take it from them and use it to harm someone.

    • Yes the teachers who would be allowed this would have to fall under very strict criteria and go through extensive training to insure that a problem is prevented not worsened.
