Are You Prepared For World War III?

Whether you are or not Russia is showing signs of expansion of the country by moving military convoy in to neighboring Ukraine. It seems that the Ukraine was ready for it by destroying most of the convoys vehicles. The reason for Kiev moving troops and supplies around is because he has been fighting pro-Russia rebels. Due to the convoy invading into Ukraine the Russian ambassador has been summoned to London for an explanation. Comments from Russia so far have been that they were sending supplies to the Ukrainian rebels in Eastern Ukraine. Red Cross has also responded to Eastern Ukraine by sending more medics and supplies to the Ukraine.

So is this a little misunderstanding or is this the start of World War 3? Explain.

  • This is a big topic in the news but also quite difficult to form opinions if you don't have the background knowledge of the conflict. Be sure to reply to student comments!

  • I believe that yes, there is a lot of conflict and at-risk things going on in Russia and Ukraine. I think that it could sometime start a WWIII, but I honestly do not think that it will happen in the near future. The media makes lots of things much more dramatic than what they need to be. They exaggerate things and make things sound different than what they really are. That doesn't mean I am on their side, but I do believe that people are acting a little too dramatic than what it needs to be.

  • It could very well start a world war three, if they don't keep between these two countries. But like Jacob said the last world wars reasoning were  just silly.

  • I don't think that this will be the start of a world war, but It was probably right to be rid of the Russian "support" trucks. I think that if this does spin off into a war, the only people involved will be Ukraine and Russia.

  • I have to agree with Alexis along with Cassie. This is because one as long as other countries give minimal involvement to the situation both countries should be able to come to agreement with one another. But going back to the past world wars the reasoning for both seem almost kind of foolish. So, going with Cassie I think we all should be preparing for the worst but hoping for the best.

  • If we think about how WWI and WWII started (mind that I only remember so much from eighth grade history, but bear with me) we can compare how the first two world wars started to how this one may start. WWI began when Gavrilo Princip of Serbia assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, then Russia had to step in to protect Serbia from Austria-Hungary like they had agreed to do. Long story short, alliances formed and more and more countries joined to protect their allies. WWII began due to Hitler wanting to take over Europe and, essentially, a whole group of people. Hitler attacked several other countries (I like to think WWII really began at the Invasion of Poland) and by that time, no other powerhouses like Britain or France were going to step in. Essentially, what we can gather here is that what happens when world wars begin is that one country tries to take over several others. In this case, it seems to be really just Ukraine actually fighting Russia, but minimal involvement from other countries, so hopefully that will keep the incident between those two.

  • I think it could very well be the beginning of World War 3. It's scary to think of, but things over there don't seem to be getting better. I hope that it won't turn into WW3, but I think we should be prepared for big changes soon.
