Single-gender schools are schools that specialize in a specific gender. They work specifically with the different needs of females or males and separate the two from each other hoping to enhance learning. Many people find it very beneficial to separate the males and the females. Many people think that having mixed-gender schools is distracting. People believe that the attraction between males and females causes issues within schools and prevents students from learning to their highest potential. Another reason people are anti- mixed-gender schools is that scientifically, girls have proven to mature faster. Separating males and females potentially lets the girls mature without immature boys holding them back. Single-gender schools lead to less gender stereotyping and overall is much more relaxing.
On the other hand, some individuals find single-gender schools a waste of money and overall pointless. Others believe that it is too hard to try and fund separate schools when it is cheaper just to mix genders. Another reason people do not support single-gender schools is that it promotes poor social skills. When schools prohibit the study of each other's genders, students start to lack social skills and are unaware of how to communicate with the opposite sex. Many people say that single-gender schools promote sexism. According to “Science Daily,” a study done in 2010 by Professor of Psychology, Human Development, and Family Studies Lynn S. Liben studies classrooms segregated by gender and found signs of sexism in students. She concluded, “The choice to fight sexism by changing co-educational practices or segregating by gender has parallels to the fight against racism.” When males and females are educated separately many times wrong assumptions are made against one another. The last main reason people don’t like them is that they minimize your experience levels. Students benefit from richer and wider ranges of experiences.
Overall, I think that there are some pros to single-gender schools, but I still think that they aren't as beneficial as mixed-gender schools are. I think that social skills and the study of other genders' behaviors is important and part of learning and growing up. I think that sometimes mixed-gender schools are distracting, but I do not feel that they take away from any of the learning that students do. In the end, I do not think they are a bad thing and it truly depends on how a student learns best, but I think for me it is not needed.

Great topic choice and one that hasn't been done this year(+5)! Your summary is well done as well Lily. The issue is that you only replied three times and you should have replied around nine times-three per page.
I personally think that being around both genders is more beneficial for students, because you have more people with conflicting interests. Also, some people won't know how to interact with the opposite gender if they don't talk to them at all through high school.
i see the reasoning behind single-gender schools but i think that ordinary schools are better. they give you more experiences to life and what your future looks like. i dont think gender should really matter in a school your just going to learn.
I think mixed-gender schools are beneficial because it gives you a rough draft of what life is going to be like when you graduate high school, whereas if someone went to a single-gendered school I think they wouldn't really know how to interact with the opposite gender since females and males are very different from each other.
Although I can see why some people would choose to go to a single-gendered school, I wouldn't want that. I think that mixed-gender schools are able to give you an experience that single-gendered schools arent' able to. It exposes you to different situations, which is very important. People should be able to socialize with the other gender in school, which is why I think that mixed-gendered schools are better.
Personally I think that mixed gender schools are already beneficial enough. A singled gender school is pricey, and just not that necessary in my opinion. I wouldn't want to go to a school that was just girls because I just don't mind attending school with girls and boys. I honestly don't see how it's distracting.
i think that single gender schools are better beacse usually you have to pay for those private schools and that leans on better education at these schools and more acedemic choices unlike same gender schools and you have a better chance of getting scholarships becase they have better sport programs and acedemic.
In my opinion it is worse because gender is not big of a deal and female and male should be communicating and talking to each other. Socializing with the opposite gender is not a distraction or a bad thing.
I think that single-gender schools are worse. I believe that people, whatever gender should be able to work together and should be able to socialize with each other. Going to a single-gender school would not be ideal for me personally because I feel like girls are more drama. We will have to socialize with the opposite gender at some point, so it might as well be at school while we are young. I do not really get the point of single-gender schools and I would not attend a single-gender school.
