As I am sure you know, all across America the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly. This sickness has affected us all differently. One major way it is affecting people of our general age is at school. As many have already noticed a ton of school systems are running out of subs and people to cover classes. This is a huge problem because all classrooms have to have someone certified to supervise it. Whether it’s a college certification or a 4 hour class needed to be a sub. All classroom supervisors are supposed to be certified.
“Sub shortages have been a problem for years,” KETV states this year though teachers are missing about twice as many days as a “normal” year. The new Covid restrictions have caused all substitute teachers and volunteers to show proof of full vaccination. Which is why they started out the year with about 20% less subs than usual. On average schools are only filling about 50% of the places needed throughout the day. School Districts are having to dispatch those in the offices doing paperwork to cover classes as well as pulling in principals and superintendents to cover classes. Some states like Cincinnati, are having to shut down schools after Covid hit their buildings in a wave, causing the schools to turn to remote learning.
Some of the largest school districts in the nation are bringing up the idea that all teachers should be vaccinated but are stalling because nearly ⅓ of the teachers “don’t have proof of vaccination.” In other states a great percentage of the staff have exemptions. As chalkbeat.org stated “The reluctance to vigorously implement vaccine mandates may reflect the school staffing shortages that have rippled across the country,” Stating that if vaccine mandates are not going to be enforced thoroughly that the schools will see a big percentage of the teachers going out sick.
In another article it talked about the stresses of teaching in a pandemic and all the negative impacts on teachers. In a survey given to teachers it stated that “More than 40% of the teachers surveyed said that they considered leaving or retiring, and over half said it was because of the pandemic. Although schools could get by without some extra class teachers, every school has to have the main topics taught in every grade.
Do you think that Vaccines should be mandated?
Do you think vaccines should be mandated for only specific people?
If so, who or what professions?
Do you think staffing issues will continue in schools?

Well done Emily!
I don't think the vaccine should be mandated. I don't think it is right to force someone to put something into their body. I also don't think your job should be able to choose. You shouldn't have to leave the job you love just because you don't want the vaccine. I think there are going to be staffing issues for quite a while while we recover from covid.
I think that schools should not shut down because it will not be beneficial to the kids. It is harder to understand something when you are not with the teacher in person. I do not think that vaccines should be mandated because you should not have to put something into your body if you do not want to.
I agree you only get one body and you should always have the choice and the knowledge of what's going on.
I feel like the vaccine shoudlt not be mandated it should be your own option to get the vaccine. Also I feel like maybe it should be mandated to people that are older, or people that travel a lot, or people traveling/going to be around people in a small space.
I do not think vaccines should be mandated because it should be the person's choice not to be forced. I think the vaccine came out way too quickly and no one knows what's all in it. It's not even 100% effective so what would be the point of getting the vaccine.
I agree once more stats come out about it, and it gets stronger, I think more people will be tempted to get it.
No, I do not think that the covid vaccine should be mandated. Not in schools and not in jobs. I think that if the mandated is not forced on everyone, then it should never be forced on certain people. I understand health care workers people in the medical field, but it should still be their choice. I think that the staffing issue is happening already and it may be a while bedore it will slow down.
I agree, but I disagree I believe in the past 2-3 weeks everyone has been hit and I think that possibly it could get better faster.
I do not think that vaccines should be mandated. If they did i feel like it would just cause a lot more problems and kids and parents would not do it. i think getting the vaccine should be a choice. I think if the vaccine wold be mandated it would be everyone not just a group of people.
