Are professional athletes overpaid? Well before we get into this, we need to lay down the facts. The average NBA player makes an outstanding 8.32 million each year. The average NFL player makes 3.26 million a year. The WNBA makes $120,000 on average and that will most likely increase this year as it did last year. Click here to see all sports salaries.
Now that we have the facts down let’s compare these salaries to the average salary of a police officer or a doctor. The average doctor will make anywhere from $112,000 - $208,000 annually. The average Police officer makes anywhere from $46,000 - $110,000 a year.
If you compare all these salaries, there is a huge difference between sports and the jobs we absolutely need. So, the question comes back around. Are athletes overpaid? Personally, I don’t think athletes are overpaid, but I do think these jobs we need are underpaid.
The reason I don’t think they are overpaid is because the teams or the organizations they work for make all that money and the money would otherwise pile up for the owner. Athletes in this generation also feel the need to be paid more than everyone. They will threaten to leave a team if they aren’t paid a certain amount. Also, these athletes are literally putting their lives out there and taking a lot of physical pain. Let’s take NFL for an example. The average life expectancy of an NFLplayer is 59 years old. Compare that to the average USA citizen (79). Would you be willing to lose 20 years of your life? I think these players deserve their money.
The doctors and police officers also go through so much stress to only be paid as much as they do. Police officers literally will put their lives on the line everyday and aren’t getting paid even close to people playing sports.
In conclusion, I do not think professional athletes are overpaid, but I feel like some of these other professions should be paid more.

Intersting topic and good job overall Stephen! Your second to last sentence about doctors and police officers seems out of place where it is and should have been added earlier in your post. You also could have replied a few more times.
I think that profesional athletes are not over paid because they put in a lot of time into what they do. They also risk a lot in sports like injuring their body wich can effect them for the rest of their lives. I definetly think that people like doctors and police officers should be paid more because they are also putting in a lot of time and have a lot of risks in their jobs.
I dont think the professional athletes get over paid becasue they work really hard and sometime even get hurt so they are being paid the perfect amout. Yes doctors and polices officers should get paid more becasue many police die from stupid people and doctors have to do so much to keep people alive.
In some arguments you could say that professional athletes are somewhat overpaid. Most people would argue that they stand on the sidelines and thats what most of them get paid for but they do a lot for our companies and they keep them running. We all know how serious us Iowans and even Americans are with sports and especially football, when football season rolls around it always brings in huge crowds and many spectators. Along with professional athletes there is our healthcare workers and police officers, they should be paid a bit more just for the fact the do a lot for all of us too and they put their lives on the line everyday just to keep us all safe.
I think professional athletes are slightly overpaid yes. I understand that they put their lives at risk but so do police officers and military. I don't think that professional athletes should get paid as much but I also wouldn't want that money to only go to the owner. I do think that police officers and our military should get paid more because they do risk their lives everyday.
I think that pro athletes don't get overpaid mainly because they are the reason the companies they work for make money. The NFL for example pays me $500,000 just for sitting in the sidelines. Doctors and police are paid just fine because they don't have the facilities for that money.
I don't think professional athletes are paid too much because they generate all of that money. I think that the doctors and police officers should be paid more as well. The problem with paying them more is that where are we going to get the money. Professions get paid as much as they generate.
I think that Professional Athletes get paid an unsually high amount of money. It would be good for some of that money to go to more of the people involved with the sports like people helping on the sidelines like the doctors. I also think that because sports are so popular and earn so much money, the athletes do deserve to be well paid. I definitely think that our essential workers like Police officers and doctors should be paid more. this is because there jobs are so demanding. Doctors take on huge amounts of responsibility and work tough hours while police officers put their lives on the line when they step into a dangerous situation. I agree that these workers are definitely underpaid and that the athletes have worked for the money they earn but it often seems like a little too much money.
I think that professional athletes are overpaid because I understand that also has their difficulties but isn't something essential. I think doctors and police officers jobs are way more necessary than sports. Also, sometimes these people are putting their lives in danger to save other lives. I think professional athletes should be paid less because in my opinion is overrated.
In my opinion they are doing a great job on entertainmant and sports business, but they are gaining to much money not even including lots of sponsorships. Some of the social service workers should be treated better compared to succesful athletes, also there are people that risk their lives, such as coast guard rescue swimmers, militiary soldiers and such.
