Are NIL deals a good or bad thing for for collage athletes

Also known as NIL deals this is using an athlete's Name, image, and likeness to promote a product made by a company. This has been a topic of discussion for a couple years now people have many takes on this. Some think it there still young and dumb and will make bad decsitons with the money they earn. But others think it a great idea and think these athlets deserve money for playing there desired sport.

Any anthlete can earn money from these NIL opertuniteis however some might earn more than others based on populatrity and hype around their name. But any athlete can earn money by doing Camps or teaching, they can also earn money by signing autographs. But the biggest and most known example is participating in advertisments for a company and the company posting that advertisment which fits the name of NIL (name, image, and likness). Another oppertunity for these athlets eo earn money is to manage social medai accounts, this opportunity as the others.

Only certain states allow these opertunitses for collage athlets these states include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Californa, Colorado, Conncececticut, Flordia, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisnia, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Orgen, Pennsylvannia, South Carolina, Tennesse, Texas. They still have to follow their states restructions on the NIL deals but the oppertunity there if they want it. This proposes lots of problems with the making of the game NCAA Football. This is going to be a video game like madden but collages players and teams. One of the big problems is certain states not allowing these ahtlets to use ther name, image, likness for the video game.

There is no limit on how much money one player can make but some big names that have mad a lot of money from these opertunites. Names inlcue Livvy Dunne who has made over $3,4 million with her 11.3 million followrs acrosed her social media platforms. However that number doesent come close to possibly the leader in NIL money made with $7.5 million his name is Brony James. Brony was one of the best high school prostpects for baskeball. Being the son of famus basketball player LeBron James its in his blood to preforem well in basketball.

What you opion on collage athletes making NIL money?

Do you think there should be a limt on how much money can be made?

Should the NCCA allow more states to particitpate in these NIL opertunites?

  • Great topic choice and really well done Mason!! Be sure to comment three different days.

  • I think that NIL money is a good thing because it pushes the athlete to want to work harder and reach better goals in their life. It can also help them get recognized by people and benifit them in the future.

  • I dont think is a good idea to put a limit on koney because they survive of that they drive for that, athlete is good enough to get NIL money they should be able to get as mutch money as they desirve.just because of their work and how they work and everything so they diserve that .

  • I think it's a good thing but it can be a bad thing too. These athletes work super hard and not many people can go that far in sports. A lot of people are watching them as well or looking up to them. However, I do think this takes some of the fun out of college football because the colleges that have a lot of money have the advantage.

    • Yea, I agree the collages with big names and more money than others can have an influence on an athlete's decision which would be as fair as no money involved and the athlete's heart making a decision.

  • I think the money is an excellent way for them to pay for college and potentially make even more money yet. I think there should not be limits because if they are good enough to make that much money they deserve to have it while their young.

    • The money if definitely temping for a young athlete and they can capitalize of this opportunity and make more money. I think there should be a limit on how much can be offered so other collages can still influence to get recruits.

  • I think it depends on who is getting the money because money can change people. I don't think their needs to be because that will just start contraversey. I think they should let all states participate in NIL.

    • Money can definitely change people in some bad ways but maybe even some good ways. They can definitely use the money for bad things like PEDs or alcohol, but it can also be used for good they can donate to charities or they could start fundraising or give back to the community.

  • I think NIL money is a good thing because it gives athletes a drive to work hard. I don't think there should be a limit on NIL money because if the athlete is good enough to get NIL money they should be able to get as mutch money as they desirve.
