Electric cars seem to be a fast growing market for transportation, because of environmental concerns, but are they really better for the environment? A single petrol burning car produces an average of 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. On the other side electric cars produce no tailpipe emissions. However electric cars must have a source of power to charge them and If the power is produced in a non green way like a coal power plant then it is no different than having a gas burning vehicle.
Electric cars need batteries to run which means they need lithium. Lithium is a material that is in the batteries to give it their charge. Lithium is a material that is mined for in massive mines that disturbes the land and environment. To mine the lithium they need massive dump trucks, loaders, and other big equipment which causes more carbon dioxide pollution. Batteries also degrade over time which means that they will need replacing and the old batteries will just clog up landfills even more.
Electric vehicles also take time to charge which takes way more time than just filling a fuel tank. I personally think that petrol burning vehicles are a much better option than eclectic cars as of right now. However when new technological advancements come in and there are much more efficient ways to charge electric vehicles they will most likely take over. Electric cars are becoming more popular by the day on the roads and starting to become popular in motorsports as well. Electric cars definitely seem to be the main focus for the future of vehicles.
Do you think electric cars are good for the environment?
Do you think that electric cars are the future? If so why?
Would you drive an electric car?

Good topic choice and well done overall Carson! You commented on three different days but only one was done on day the 22nd so try to equal it out a buit more next time.
You bring up a good point. Iowa is pretty good because we get a lot of energy from wind turbines. Other states, however, don't get as much energy from clean sources. Electric cars are definitely the future. Eventually we'll use up fossile fuels or a clean energy initiave will kick in. I would definitely drive an electric car. 15 dollars for a full charge is pretty good.
I think we don't really know enough about electric cars, like they haven't been around for just too long and they could be producing bad emissions in the air but we just haven't seen it yet or maybe its hard to see. I would not drive an electric car because they are pretty expensive. I'm going to assume that electric cars are the future because everything seems to be going electric.
I think that electric cars aren't that bad for the enviroment, but they could be 10x better then they currently are. I think that there will always be people that will stick to gas and diesel cars and trucks, but I think for the most part electric cars will take over most the car markets in the near future. I don't know if I'd personally drive an electric car or not.
I agree because electric cars are terible for the enviorment now but once green energy sources are available electric cars will be much better for the enviorment than gas powered cars and will most likely take over the market for car sales.
No I don't think it is that great. I didn't think about the battery part but that is a good point. And what happens when you have to crush this car because it was in an accident? It would be cool to drive a Tesla but I would much rather drive a Duramax. I don't think fuel is that bad for the environment since we have been driving them for many years.
For me, personally, it’s hard to say whether or not electric cars are better for the environment. I feel as though they haven’t been around for long and not a good amount of people uses electric cars. It’s difficult to see whether or not they’re doing more harm than good. I also believe that electric cars, or any alternative to gas-using cars, will become the future as we strive for a way to keep the earth a better place. If I had the option to drive an electric car, I would simply because it seems cool. It’s awesome seeing how far we have come along in designing cars and changing what they can do and what they’re made from.
I agree because I think that for the everyday person that is driving to work it will be much cheaper to daily drive once electric cars become cheaper and have a better more clean way to charge them and they are also very hard to find a place to charge them as of right now.
I think that electric cars are the future because that is what society is pushing for. Regardless of how they are manufactured, most people just see the fact that they don't use any gas, therefore giving the impression that they are better for the environment. Right now I definitely wouldn't drive an electric car, but in the future I might if I can afford it and if the market for them keeps growing.
I believe that electric cars would ultimatly better then fuel cars. I think that we should start heading toward electric cars more to help the economy. If I was able to drive an electric car I would drive it because that would help the environment. I think they would help way more.
