Are Cops doing their Job's right?

2020's been a ruff year, it started off fine but after COVID_19 started things are declineing and haven't stopped. One of the biggest issues in our country right now is whether or not cops are doing there job the correct way and the way they were trained. There has been a lot of police grey areas in 2020, some of the more popular concerns are; The shooting of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd's homocide and excessive police force along with black unjustice. I personally think that our country should totally erase the police practices in place and impliment new one's similar to countrys in Europe. Most countrys have extensive training lasting 1-10 years, most have to have some kind of military backround and all are given thorough physcological evaluations. This is a great practice and ensures that no cop will feel pressure in situations when they should have been calm, when they are not this is what leads to them straying off the line of what their dutys auctually consist of, Which is desclating situations. In most cases where police are called to a scene they try to overpower whats going on and controll it which is totally wrong. They need to ascess the situation and help people in need, harm or any other issue. They should be friends and our protectors not the scrambled mess of athority they are now.

  • Gavin,

Your take is very good! Could it be a tad longer, yes, but you did what I want people to do. The issue is you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • I think cops are doing the right thing and doing as much as they can at the moment. As there is alot going on in the world right now, with lots of people saying all cops are bad, I believe that there are good cops out there and not all of them are bad. Most cops are just doing their job which is to help people and keep us safe.

  •  While I do agree that some things could be changed in the way our police forces go about some things, I don't agree that we should defund or change their background training to become a cop. I think that our cops are doing an excellent job at what they can and what they are there to do. Yes, there have been some not so good things that have happened that may involve a cop or more but that doesn't mean that it was the cops fault. The victim or the person that the cops were called to could have got out of hand and the cops didn't know any better way to handle the situation. I don't think that we shoud be blaming the cops and wanting the cops to be better. I think us as the people need to be better people and have more respect for our police officers for all of the hard work they do to protect us.

  • I think our system as of right now is a mess, there's no denying that, but I don't think that it should be completely abolished and restarted. What would happen in that time that it's being reconstructed? Look at Minneapolis! They put up barriers and told the police force that they didn't need them. That didn't last long for them, but now the police aren't as active on actual problems. Their crime rates have sky rocketed! You have to remember that they are people too, and need a drive to keep going. That being said, they should be held completely accountable for their actions. You often see examples of police who were able to just slip away from any concequence. I think this is partly because it's hard to actually know what was an attempt to follow proper procedure and what was just, straight out, a purposful crime. In my opinion, they should set up harder, stricter training and certain, specific charges officers can face.

  • I agree that they need new practices to help with certain situations, especially the part with the psychological evalution. I think a majority of cops are good and doing what they need to do. Its just those few bad ones like the ones involved in george floyd and breonna taylors cases that is the problem. They need to do a better job with hiring in my opinion, along with the better practices of course. I also think that even good cops are at some fault.. all the good ones need to stand up and point out wrongs made by their collegues. Not just sit idly by watching them when they know it isnt right. If that were to happen i believe there would be a lot less people dying and getting hurt when they dont need to.

  • I think cops are doing their jobs the way they should be. The videos of cops that have gone viral, I definelty think the cops did not make the best choice but I support them for trying to keep everyone safe. People do not realize that they care so much about us and our country. They risk their lives everyday and they get disrespected because of the decisons of another cop

  • I think cops are doing the best they can. Cops will always do there part and protect there community. But i do also belive that some of the killings some cops have done, were no nessasary. At the same time tho, there doing what they think is best for there community. There job is to protect us and that what there doing. so i do think there doing there best.

  • I belive that the cops are doing their jobs correct and they always will. Cops will always protect us and they will help us. Especially right now, it is a hard time to be a cop. They are doing their best and trying to handle the situations the best to their ability. I think they are doing their best.

  • I feel like the police force needs to be increased and that they are doing their job mostly correct, there are some occasions that they've acted wrongly, but other than that I feel like they're doing their job almost perfectly.

  • I think saying that we need to defund the police and ban police is very wrong and should never be said. I do not think everyone knows every part of the story to all of the things on the news. Yes, I do not agree with some of the choices cops make, but that does not mean they should be banned.
