Apple Repair Center Makes Hundreds of Accidental 911 Calls

In Elk Grove, California, Emergency dispatchers have been getting hundreds of accidental calls since October of last year. And the cause of this? An Apple Repair Center. Police dispatcher, James Hudson, told CBS news that the accidental calls have been distracting from other serious calls. Police aren't sure how the calls are being triggered. Apple stated, “We’re aware of 911 calls originating from our Elk Grove repair and refurbishment facility. We take this seriously and we are working closely with local law enforcement to investigate the cause and ensure this doesn’t continue.”

Questions:
1.) How do you think these calls are being triggred?
2.) Do you think there could be a way to prevent this sort of stuff happening? And if so, How?

  • Yes because there must be a solution for this problem. Somewhere in the coding there must have been a glitch inside it. You either have to go in and make a patch or call back the deffective device.

  • It is probably a error or glitch in Apple's system. They have had many issues before with their phones with glitches and problems like all technology. It will be fixed quickly as Apple usually does.

  • Maybe the phones are malfunctioning and calling the number. There has to be a serious reason, set up a system to see how severe the emergency, like when you vote for president you press a number for who to vote for.

  • Its probably a technical error that keeps going off and causing the phones to go off. Fix the computers that are causing the problems or fix thecoding within the phones so they dont activate to false alarms.

  • It is obviously a technical difficulty or software design flaw within the system of the phone but it could be anything like hackers or something.  This could be prevented by simply fixing the problem. Apple obviously knows that there is a problem with the phones and I believe that it is most likely a simple fix on their part.

  • Its most likely a minor/major glitch in the system, or maybe a bug, etc that needs sorted out.

If its a bug/glitch maybe an update will fix it, otherwise they may have to look into there technology specifically, maybe even doing some revamps/recalls.

  • 1. They may accidently click on emergency call on there screen lock.

    2. I think so I would take it off the screen lock and just dial it if I need to call them.

  • I think there could be a glitch in the system and in their technology. I think this can be prevented by figuring out what is causeing the problem and figure out how it can be stopped from happening again.
