App allows drivers to track cops location

Police are worried about an app that allows drivers to track cops location. The app is called Waze, Its a popular app that drivers all around the world use to avoid silly traffic jams. However Waze is also helping drivers spot officers locations and any speed traps. John Tompsen from the National Sheriff Association says "Why give anyone a tool to violate the law and put officers at risk, it just doesn't make sense."  Viewers also can leave comments on the map as to where cops are hiding and are located. allowing other drivers to know where officers are.

I don`t think having an app that shows cops location is a good idea. That just allows drivers to take advantage, and disrespect laws which does not make sense.

Do you think this app could put officer lifes at risk? Why?

Do you think the app is a good idea or a bad? Why?

  • Again, great story choice but you only replied twice. Be sure to hyperlink correctly.

  • I think it definitely puts the officers at risk. Especially with recent events, people who might have a vendetta against a certain officer can track them down and hurt them.

I understand the reason for it, but I think they're going about it the wrong way.

  • I don't think it will put their lives at risk, but it will allow people to get away with breaking traffic laws if they know the location of the officers. I think it's a good idea, but it will also distract drivers which is unsafe.

  • I would say that you have the right idea here.

  • I think that this app should be taken down because with people who want to go and kill cops because of things like in Ferguson. Also cops could be working on cracking down on serious criminals and this could ruin their chances of executing their plans.

  • Well for one, the cops abuse speed limit laws by sitting right next to a speed limit sign, and wait until someone decelerates a little to slowly. This app would help avoid thing like that, although it is a hazard to cops, because if say, someone would like to commit a crime, they could see where all of the cops in town are located and could strategize more effectively, and probably make it out clean.

  • I think that this app could be helpful to others as long as it's not detecting police vehicles. This app would be great if it only worked kind of like a weather radar by showing the general area of where traffic jams are, but not show where police cars are at. When showing where all police cars are at, people will again take advantage of their speed and driving ability which can not only danger them, but the police and other drivers as well.

  • I think, that it could in a way. But, i dont think their lives will be at risk. And i think weather saying the app is good or bad depends on the person you are. Now, coming from a drivers point of view, I like the app. But, from a law persons point of view, the app is not good. So, that all depends on where you stand on the spectrum.

  • I think it could easily put an officer's life at risk or somebody else's. Maybe some drunk driver saw that there was a cop on that road so he went down a different road and ended up killing somebody because he wasn't caught. Plus anyone who wants to kill a cop, could sneak up on them by knowing where they are, and bank robbers or something like that could use this app to see where police are and try to evade them that way. I think this is a terrible idea for an app, and I can't believe it isnt illegal or been taken down already.

  • Yes it's putting officers at risk because then no one would get pulled over and then there would be no need for officers and no need for the app. I think that having the app is very bad idea because well first, you should have your phone out in use while you are driving, police officers are just trying to do their job. Everyone speeds, everyone knows that. That's the reason why we have police officers in the first place.
