Amputee Dog Walks Again

A two year old Rottweiler named Brutus can walk again thanks to advances in technology. Brutus is only the second dog ever to have 4 prosthetic limbs put in. The Colorado dog suffered severe frostbite on all four of his paws. His previous owner then amputated all four of his paws. Since the incident he was been adopted by Aquilina who walks and trains the dog daily. She says that Brutus does good when walking around in side the house, but the real challenge for the dog has been walking outside. "His high-stepping...resembles a bucking bronco." said Aquilina.

Brutus received his limbs last year, starting with his hind legs and then working to his front. "Brutus is an amazing case of a beautiful dog who was dealt a short hand," said Martin Kauffman, founder of the company that makes prosthetics for about 250 animals worldwide a year.

Do you think that you would have prosthetic limbs put on your pet if it meant they might walk again? Why or Why not? Do you think that there should be more stories like this instead of just the 2 cases?

  • Good job!

  • Heck, yeah! I would give my dog anything if it meant for them to walk again! Dogs need to adventure and explore as much as humans do! They shouldn't miss out on anything! I think there could be more stories, but no body cares much to put them out in the open because they're about dogs, not humans.

  • I would probably not put prosthetic legs on my pet. Well its a dog I would be totally fine with putting him down myself. Well depends what kind of person you are. If you can absolutely not stand your pet dying then I guess get the prosthetic legs.

    • Its all a mindset and how you feel about it. Some people are like you and say put him down others say get the prosthetic limbs.

      • I know Wren! lol

  • I would definitely get Paul, my dog, the necessary prosthetic limbs if he needed it! I think that every dog and animal should have the pursuit of life and happiness. I think that this story will cultivate more people into this industry and more pet-owners will do this.

    • I agree, I definitely think that it will spark an interest in people to do this more.

      • If this were your dog, would you do this for them? Or is it too extreme to you?

        • I do love my dogs a lot. The decision I would make would have to be made based upon quality of life at the time I'm faced with the decision.

  • I don't know, but I think as long as it didn't clean out my savings, I would probably do this for my pet. Pets, like people, deserve the freedom of mobility.
