Amelia Earhart

Amelia mary Earhart was born on July 24, 1897. Earhart's father was a railroad lawyer and her mother came from an affluent family, in the mid-1920's Earhart moved to Massachusetts where she became a social worker at the Denison house. She also continued to pursue her interest in aviation.

Earhart crossed the Atlantic alone on May 20-21,1932. Her flight was completed in a record time of 14 hours and 56 minutes despite many problems, including many mechanical and weather issues.

Earhart was also known for encouraging women to reject constrictive social norms and to pursue various opportunities especially in the field of aviation.

On July 2nd Noonan and Earhart headed for Howland Island, Amelia had radioed that they were running out of fuel and after a long time with no communication from either Noonan or Earhart a search was put out and on July 19th,1937 the operation was called off and the pair was declared lost at sea.

Amelia was officially declared dead on January 5, 1939

  • Fine topic choice Kaylee but I think you could have discussed the mystery behind her disappearance more as that is a quite popular topic still today. You didn't reply to amy students comments which is worth 30 points. This is also a couple of weeks late. With that said, I know you have been sick so I'm glad you got this done!

  • I thinkt that Amelia left a positive impact on women that want to pursue the avitation field. I think that she proved and opened many peoples eye to realize that women can do jobs that are supposed to be for "men only" I think that if they haven't found her plane by now, they wont. It is most likely in too bad of shape to find and see.

  • I think Amelia definitely paved the way for women now in the aviation work field. She showed them it was possible, even though it wasn't normally a "girl thing to do". I personally do not think they'll ever find Amelia or her plane because it has been so long, and by now it's probably undistinguishable.

  • I definitely think Amelia Earhart affected women who wanted to pursue an aviation career. She became a role model for a lot of women in the 20's and 30's. I think it will take a very long time to find her plane because nobody knows where she crashed.
