ALS Ice Bucket Challenge goes viral

Pete Frates, a man with ALS also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, can no longer talk, walk, or move his arms. He has been challenging people to do the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS. The Ice Bucket Challenge is where you simply dump a bucket of ice water on your body to feel what it is like to have Lou Gehrig's Disease for even a split second. After challenging all of the other people to do this he did it himself. Even though he can do very little he has made a big difference for the people with ALS including himself. Although it started out small it made a big impact. Over 11 million dollars have been raised through the Ice Bucket Challenges, according to ESPN.

What small thing could you do to make a difference in the world?

  • Much better job overall with this topic. Great choice!

  • There are a lot of things that could be done to change some stuff and make things better. People are always telling you to recycle and try to save energy, and that can make a big difference if everyone actually did it. I try to do all the little things that could make a difference in the world.

  • There a lot of things that could be done to make a difference in the world, most people want to help. But they aren't dedicated enough to do it. So maybe just doing something small like dumping a bucket of ice water is good enough, even if its just to raise awareness.

  • I agree with all of you. What impact do you this would make if Pete wouldn't have done the challenge?

    • I don't think there would be as much awareness without the ALS ice bucket challenge.. So if we didnt do the challenge there wouldn't be as much awareness and it wouldn't have as big of an impact.

      • Good point point. Do you think this is like polar plunge, If so how?

  • I think anyone could make a difference in the world. You just have to think what it would be like to have some sort of disease and try and make a resemblance to it and that could be your challenge. You just have to find a disease and then find something to bring awareness to it.

  • There is so many ways to make a difference in the world! Just have to think and realize some of the stuff that your doing is wrong and you could be making a difference in this world. Things like to littering or picking up trash or recycling.

  • I think everyone of us could start something like this for all different types of diseases. This is just like the polar plunge, but better because the money goes to different families instead of just one. I think if we all really tried and thought about it we could start something like this and make a big difference in the world for everybody with bad diseases/sicknesses.

  • There are many ways for people to make a difference in the world. Sometimes even a simple smile could make someones day. If people started taking care of the planet and started recycling and throwing stuff away, it could make a difference. It is important to have a clean and safe environment. It will not only impact you but can impact everyone around you.
