Alligator tries to drag 90-year-old woman into a Florida canal

An 8-foot-long alligator sank its teeth into a 90-year-old woman's leg and tried to drag her into a canal in southern Florida, a spokeswoman for the state's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

Margaret Webb was walking in her flooded yard Wednesday in rural Copeland, Florida, about 80 miles west of Miami, when the alligator lunged at her and grabbed her by her left leg, commission spokeswoman Gabriella Ferraro said.

Dewain Daniels, who was driving by, stopped to help the woman, Ferraro said, and pulled her out of the water away from the alligator. But that didn't stop the huge reptile, which tried to come out of the water three times.

Daniels shot the alligator between the eyes with a .22 Magnum rifle, according to the incident report from the wildlife commission, and it retreated into the water.

The only thing thats lucky to be alive out of this is the alligator after getting shot in the face with a 22.

That must've hurt a lot. My question is how the guy all of a sudden had a gun. This lady is sure lucky though.

holy cow i cant believe that happened poor old lady.. just trying to walk through her lawn and an alligator attacked her.. luckily that lady happened to be driving by otherwise she may not be her right now.

Man! That sounds horrible! I'm pretty afraid of sharks and aligators...I'm just glad she didn't die! :)

I think that if i was 90 years old and I got attacked by a gator I wouldve just told them to kill me cuz I would be old and have artheritis or pain, but im glad that the woman is alright. Shes lucky that the guy was driving by to save her.

I watch swamp people all the time and the place that you are supposed to shoot an alligator is in this dime sized spot on the top of its head. I would of thought that if an alligator that big jumped out at a 90 year old lady that she would have a heart attack.
