The Salvation Army is hoping to help nearly 400 children this year-- right in time for Christmas. In 1979, a program called Angel Tree was started to help families that are struggling, put a smile on their children's face. This year they are trying to help 397. How are they doing it? They place trees around the town with tags hanging on them. These tags include name, age, clothing size, and a few things they would like for Christmas. They take a tag and bring it back attached to a present. The whole town comes together and make a child's year, even those that are struggling a bit themselves.

I think this idea is incredible and I am so glad that people are willing to give up some of their Christmas to help others out. It gives me hope that the world isn't so self-centered and cold to others. I wish that we did have something like this in our town because I would really enjoy knowing the I made someone smile. I think that we could bring our town together more than what we are.

I think this an amazing Idea!! I would suck if I didn't have a Christmas I mean every kid always looks forward to always having Christmas but if I couldn't I would be hurt. I just think it's an amazing thing they do.. I would try and help out. I think that we need to get something like this going because I feel that there are quit a bit of people in our area that would love to have this done.

I love this idea, and it goes to show that the world hasn’t been completely consumed by evil yet. We used to do something like this in our church, but I like the idea of doing it this way because then the trees are accessible to almost all of the people in town.
If this type of program sprung up in Harlan, I would definitely contribute my share. Christmas is supposed to be about giving, and because I feel so fortunate, I should help give to those who can’t afford it.
I like how you brought up that Christmas is all about giving and even though we might not be all that fortunate, we are still better off than those that can't afford a Christmas present. I think that if we start a program like this in the church, we could start the whole thing throughout the town.

This is a great idea for the kids. This will help bring happiness to the families and the community. If we had something like this in our town, I would definitely help out with gifts.
