A young African boy is finally going to receive surgery after 2 years from a brutal attack by chimpanzees. When he was 6, Dunia Sibomana was playing with his 4-year-old brother and a friend near Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo when they were attacked by a troop of chimps. The animals killed the friend, killed and dismembered his brother and left Dunia severely injured. The injuries that Dunia sustained was the chimps took his top and bottom lips and left him so he could not talk, eat or drink properly. His face was also disfigured, The picture below is how he was left after the attack. The Surgery that Dunia is going to recieve is very rare, according to the doctor who is going to perform the 8 hour surgery.
Questions-
1. How would you feel if you heard the news the Dunia did?
2. Why do you think the Chimpanzees attacked like they did?

Well done Kayla!
This is just what these animals do. They are raised in the wild (where they should stay) and are born to fight off other animals. They probably found the kids as a threat and had to protect.
I would be happy that I finally get the surgery after 2 years of waiting. Also maybe the kids provoked the chimps or maybe they went into the Chimps territory and the chimps thought they were a threat.
I would feel very bad, because the kids were just playing around, and were no threat to the chimpanzees. They probably attacked because the kids were in their territory or maybe smelled weird or something and they didn't like it.
I would be extremely thankful that I had the chance to get the surgery! That is a huge deal after two years suffering with those terrible injuries! I think the chimps attacked because they might have been in their territory! It might of been self defense!
I would be very happy that he could finally get the surgery. I think the chimpanzees attacked like they did because its just normal for them. Just goes in there own nature to do things like that. And maybe they did something to make the chimps mad.
I would be very happy for the kid. It would be awful to wait two years for a surgery to turn you back to the way you were. I couldn't imagine waiting that long. I think that these boys must have been in these chimpanzees territory or messing with something they shouldn't have been.
I would be really happy for him that he can gets the surgery he needs now. I think that the chimpanzees saw him as food and that's why it ended like this.
I would be excited that I could get a surgery to help things out. I think the chimpanzees saw them as a threat because of the way they may have been acting.
I think the chimpanzees attacked because there were three strangers in their home and they thought they were a threat so they attacked. I would be happy if I found out that I was going to get the surgery I need after two years of waiting.
