Afghan women soccer players

During late August while the US and their allies were pulling out of the war in Afghanistan the Taliban went into control and made multiple restrictions mainly placed on women instructing them on what they are available to do.  One of the restrictions was telling the women that they can not play sports so the captain of the soccer team, Khalida Popal, told the team to delete their social media accounts trying to protect them from the Taliban. In order to protect themselves and their families some of the soccer players decided to flee Afghanistan resulting in most going to the UK where the Taliban isn’t in control.

What would you do if the government said that your activity or sport wasn't allowed to be played?

Would you flee the country just to be able to do a certain thing, activity, or sport?

  • Alexus,

Overall your summary is short and you didn't reply to any student comments which is worth 30 points.

  • i would leave country if i was not alowed to do something i dreamed of

  • If the government told be I wasn't allowed to run cross country or play soccer, I would probably go to a different country and play for them. I would personally flee the country to do a certain thing because sports are the things that I love to do.

  • If the government took away something that I truly loved to do I would be more than angry, and I think what they did was reaonable. I would too, probably leave the country to somewhere where I would be able to express myself and be able to do what I enjoy.

  • If I wasn't allowed to dp the things I was passionate and worked my whole life for, I would be livid. Sports and activities are how we express our passions as people. If that activity or sport was my career then I would definitely leave that country.

  • For me I would be fine if I couldnet be in a sport. I am not one for sports, but I do know that some people would go crazy, some people have diffrent views about sports and dont just see it as kicking/throwing a ball into a goal. Depening on what I was banned from doing then I might flee just to do it. It all depends on how big it would effect my life.

  • I think if my whole life was devoted to a sport and I wanted it to be my future/I had gone pro, then yes I would leave the country. The restrictions the Taliban placed on women's sports are ultimately just another way to make women even more inferior in a country where they can hardly even show their eyes.

  • its unfair how the taliban treats woman soccer players.they are so worried they flee there homes to go to a safer place. they deleted there social media to be hidden to protect them selves they shouldnt have to hide in terror from the taliban.

  • If I was told I could never do the sports I love again I dont know what I would do. If I was an Afghan woman I would try to flee the country to espcape the control of the taliban. They deserve to do the sports and activites they are passionate for, just like we get the opportunity in the US.

  • I will try to get out of my country and go somewhere where the conditions are better. I will go to another country if some people will start saying to me that I just need to stay in my house and cover myself so no one sees me. I like to have freedom and do what makes me happy.
