¿Adiós Chipotle?

If you have any form of social media, you know that many famous youtubers, viners, and instagrammers love Chipotle. Well, what will happen when/if Chipotle closes?

Due to many food-borne outbreaks in 2015, Chipotle Mexican Grill has decided to temporarily close all restaurants to discuss food safety changes with their employees. According to Chipotle's spokesman Chris Arnold, the restaurants are planning to close on February 8th for a team meeting.

Chipotle is trying hard to make a comeback from multiple cases of E.coli and norovirus outbreaks that were caused by the restaurant last year. Chipotle company officials have told ABC News that they are going to fully cooperate with the investigation being done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Office of Criminal Investigations and the U.S. Attorney's Office in Central California.

Chipotle Mexican Grill's company officials have announced that they started to practice new safety rules in 2015 to make sure food was being safely handled. The company is starting to take steps like testing fresh produce with DNA-based tests and end-of-shelf-life testing to make sure ingredients are safe throughout shelf storage. Chipotle is also looking to improve the restaurant chain by making sure that their employees are correctly trained in food safety and handling.

Questions:

1. If you were the company, what would you do to ensure that the food was being properly handled and no more regulations were being broken?

2. Even after Chipotle has a national meeting to go over safety regulations, would you want to eat there? Why or why not?

3. Do you believe that Chipotle can fix their safety issues with food handling throughout their entire food chain? (Considering there are over a 1,500 restaurants)

My Opinion:

In my opinion, I think what Chipotle is doing is the right thing. Although, as a consumer I do not want to risk eating there because I don't believe can they truly fix every single one of their restaurants. I wouldn't want to take a chance of getting ill because I didn't want to make myself food at my house. Since there are over 1,500 restaurants I doubt that the company will thoroughly go to each restaurant and make sure all their employees are following protocol.

  • Again, very well done!

  • I would make sure all foods were cleaned and nothing was wrong with them, I would also make sure the employees were gloves and washed their hands. I would only eat there if they changed things, and if it became alright to eat there again. I think they can because if they have the right employees and they watch what they are doing, they should be good.

  • What the company is doing is right, and will help them in the future for handling food properly, and making sure these regulations aren't being broken. I wouldn't eat there even after they open, and even if their regulations and food handling have been discussed and taken care of.

  • I would do the exact same thing, close the business down temporarily, fix the problem, then re-open when the problem is fixed. I don't think I would eat there again but I never really ate there to begin with. I wouldn't eat there because their  safety credibility has been damaged.

  • I would have a person come in and check everything a couple times a month. I have never eaten at one of them and don't know if I will now. I do think they can fix some of the restaurants most likely not all of them.

  • Chipotle has definitely began to give themselves a bad reputation and they need to take more saftey and regulation precautions in order to straighten up there act.  I think its possible for them to clean things up and still be successful . I would still eat there in the future if they made an honest attempt to change.

  • I would do what they are doing now by shutting down the restaurants to fix the problem.  There are too many restaurants so I don't think that the company will go to each restaurant and make sure that they are doing every correctly.  But it should be the manager job to make sure that everything is done correctly.

  • I think I would take the same precautions that they are instating. These seem like the best resolutions to the problem. I have never eaten there before, so I'm not attached to it. And now that I have heard that it could be unsafe there are many other places I would go before resorting to Chipotle. Since this is such a large franchise, I think it will be very challenging for the company to correct everything in every restaurant, but maybe it could be possible with time.

    • I think that it would be an intelligent choice to avoid Chipotle for awhile.. especially because there are better restaurants out there. I agree that it will definitely be hard for the franchise to correct everything due to their massive amount of restaurants around the U.S. I think that the franchise definitely will have issues rebounding from this mistake they have made, especially with all of the press they are receiving.

  • I would have it inspected every time we bought resources, and I would be more careful of how things were being cleaned and stored. I think after awhile I would eat there, because this sort of thing could happen anywhere.
