In 2015, Addison Russell was a second base player during his rookie season for the Chicago Cubs.  By 2016, he was an All-Star shortstop with Gold Glove potential.  After Russell's ex-wife complained of emotional, verbal and physical abuse, he was suspended for 40 games.  Russell says he has been meeting with a counselor and continuing to work out during his suspension.  Also during that time, Javier Baez stepped up to replace Russell as shortstop for the Chicago Cubs.  Although he started as a replacement, Baez has earned the respect of the Chicago Cubs and he may be tough competition for Russell if he is allowed back on the team after the suspension is over.

    • I think that baseball teams already have a second string for starters. It’s to bad he did this because he could have had great potential.

  • I think they should give him another chance because most major legue players are able to play more than one position. The cubs should have him working out and still participating in practice so he doesn't get rusty and can still play at his full potential.

    • I think he could play another position too. But since he is used to playing shortstop, I think he would focus on getting his starting spot back.

  • He has served his time and he is trying to get better so something like that does not happen again, so I would take him back because he is trying and he is a good player. The Cubs probably pushed him to do the counseling and training.

    • I also think that he has served his time. But he did do something wrong so does he really deserve to get back on the cubs?

  • No, I think that what he did was wrong and he should not be given another chance. If the Cubs let this go it would make the franchise look better compared to if they allowed him back on the team. I don't think any further action is required from the Cubs.

    • I agree. He did do a thing that made the league look bad. So I don't think he should be taken back on the team.

  • I am unsure if the Cubs should take back Russell or not. I do believe that they should consider it in order to make everything fair. It is also very important that Russell receive proper treatment for his issues before even being considered to be back on the team. During the time that Russell was suspended, I think the Cubs should cut all ties with him to protect their image and make it clear that they do not support abuse.

    • Russell should have been provided with treatment from the Cubs. I think that could have made a big impact.
