Egyptian film star, Rania Youssef is facing up to five years in jail for wearing a controversial on the red carpet at a film festival on Thursday. The dress was a black leotard and was covered by a black transparent overdress that showed all of her legs. Compared to Hollywood standards, the outrage would never of happened. If she is convicted of "inticing immorality" in the muslim-majority country she will face up to five years in prison. Some people believed the dress was not a big deal and that she can wear what she wants, but others complained that it was "promoting vice". Youssef is set to face trial January 12. Youssef was charged with public obscenity. It was said that her appearance did not meet societal values, traditions, and morals, and undermined the reputation of Egyptian women.

Questions
Do you think that she should face jail time for a dress? why or why not?
I think that just charges would be fine since it did go against values, traditions, and morals, but up to 5 years in prison for wearing a dress that showed her legs seems a little extreme to me.
If someone were to wear that dress in the US do you think they would face 5 years in prison?
No famous people wear dresses that are way worse than what Rania Youssef wore and nothing is even said, like the article said nothing would've even been said if someone in Hollywood were to wear that dress.

Great job Aubri!
I think that any jail time is too harsh for wearing that kind of a dress. There are much simpler ways of handling something like that. There are people that wear dresses like that and they do not get in any type of trouble.
I agree there is way better ways of handling a situation like this, such as, being banned from the event or pressed charges. Some people wear even worse here and you never hear or see anything like this come up.
I agree with you aubri, I believe that prison time for wearing a dress is a little over the top however different countries have different laws and consequences. I also agree with you that someone would not go to jail in the US for this, heck we have models that show way more than just their legs.
Yeah i'm sure she was aware that it went against traditions and all, but she probably had a designer picking outfit options since she is a celebrity. She had evn said that causing all this outrage was intentional, so I think if she would've known this would happen, she never would've done it.
I can see why she is in such hot water for this. Traditions around that part of the world are like that, women can't wear stuff that is very revealing. If somebody wore a dress like that in the US it would be just fine.
1.) I'm not forsure because it is there costoms and beliefs to not wear something like that. Although, I don't think her jail time should be that long. 2.) They would definetly not face any sort of jail time. People wear way more scandalous things than that in the US. Also, it isn't a costom in the US.
I think that she should have consequences for wearing the dress since it went against her values/traditions, but 5 years in jail seems like way to much of a punishment. These days, many famous people wear dresses that show lots of skin, so for a celebrity to wear a revealing dress here is the US is nothing out of the ordinary and typically nothing is said about it.
I mean, going into a different country, you need to respect their laws and traditions. You cant just go somewhere and expect to be able to do anything you want. I think 5 years of jail time is pretty extreme, but people need to respect the laws of the country they are in.
I agree people do need to respect laws, traditions, morals, and societal values but still 5 years in prison with actual criminals who are meant to be there is too extreme.
