In schools across America Active shooter drills are becoming just as common as fire drills. Now, yes the firearm homicide rates have been on a steady decline since 1993 dropping by 49%, but in recent years that firearm homicide has recently started to creep back up to rates comparable to a decade ago. Most schools follow the run, hide, fight model, which is recommended by the US Department of Homeland Security. A recent gun coverage on the shooting database 2018 was the worst year on record for firearms on school grounds. The "trend" of shooter drills becoming more common in schools across the country has risen the question, do active shooter drills do more harm than good? Most parents view the drills as more harm because it keeps fear in the front of the mind.

1. Do you think that active shooter drills are necessary?
I do think that active shooter drills are necessary because most students have no idea what to do if a shooter is in their school.
2. Do you think active shooter drills do more harm than good?
I think it is a mix between the two, they do good for the students by teaching them how to react when a shooter is in the school, but they also bring fear into the minds of students and fear takes away some ability to focus during class.

Good story choice and good job replying! Try to rephrase your questions so they aren't yes/no. Also, no need to capitalize every letter in your title. That is SHOUTING!!!
I do think that they are necessary to an extent. I think the amount of them should be determined by the location of the school. If the school is in a gang area of New York there should be more drills. If the school is in a small town they only need to be done a few times a year. Also if there is a shooter in the school many students will be in panic mode and not know what to do.
I think they are good but they are bad to. Since most of the shooters are students the drills show them exactly what to do to kill innocent people. It is a good thing so the staff members and students know where a safe place to go is if there is a shooter in the building.
I do think the active shooter drills are neccessary, so that people know what to do when they happen. It is hard to know how to behave in an emergency if you haven't had any training.
No, I feel like they help people be ready for a scary situation that could happen to them.
I agree, people always act different unless they know how to handle an emergancy situation.
I also agree that it helps people be prepared and ready for this scary situation.
I think that shooter drills are needed in all schools just in case a shooter does come in we can be prepared and know what to do. I do not know if it will do more harm than good because if a student is the shooter they are going to know exactly where the other students are at in the room and could possibly shoot them.
I think it's becoming more necessary for shooter drills. With all the recent shootings in schools and things, kids should be aware of what's going to happen during a drill. On the other side though, I believe that it's a little dangerous to do drills because the shooters are going to know where the kids and teachers are hiding.
Yes, students should be prepared if someone gets a messed up idea in their head to shoot up a school. It could potentially do more harm if someone who went to the school wanted to shoot it up because they would know what the students would do and where they are.
I agree that the students would be prepared for a horrible situation like this. I also agree that it could potentionally do a lot of harm if the student doing the shooting knew where some students were and could potentially end more lives because of it. But do you think it's better to prepare students and take that risk or leave students unprepared and have no idea what to do in this situation?
I think they are because anything could happen just like that and you need to be ready. You may not be ready for it but that day may come where your day turns from good to bad. No because they teach the students what to do if this would happen. I mean they could also be a little harsh about it and bring up some stuff that some students can't handle.
I agree, you most likely won't be prepared or ready if you don't have at least a drill.
I do also think that some things that could be said would be a little harsh but if they weren't then students wouldn't remember any of it and I think the point is for students to understand and be able to remember exactly what to do in a situation like this.
