Noor Alexandria Abukaram is a 16 year old cross country runner for her school, Sylvania Northview High School in Ohio. Noor Alexandria Abukaram just finished her varsity cross country meet when she noticed something was wrong. After the race her name wasn't listed on the scoring board. After asking officials why they told her it was because her hijab violated dress codes and she got disqualified. Abukaram was devastated, ""It was like your worst nightmare to have to compete and then find out that you got disqualified and it's because of something that you love," proclaimed Abukaram. She said she knew that she could be violating dress codes but for the past three years of competing for her school, she figured it was just out of the question now. Although Abukaram was devastated she said that her team and coaches are the most supportive people for her and they will always support her no matter what.

1.} Do you think a hijab should be against dress code? Why or why not?
No I don't think so, because we let everyone practice their religion and however they want, just because she is wearing something different doesn't mean people should discriminate against her.
2.} How would you feel if someone with a hijab was running with you?
I would not be affected, I wouldn't even think of her being any different.

Great story choice and well done!!
i think it might be but thet should grant exeptionsfor religios reasons. i would understand it is part of their religion and not wory about it.
No schools should let you express yourself the way you want as long as your not in harm to anyone else. She wasnt doing anything bad or hurting anyone. It's dicrimination like saying you cant ware a cross neacklace during an event your participating in. I would look at them kinda weird but if I knew what it was for I wouldnt think anything less of them.
I agree with you, if people are able to pray wherever they want to and wear cross neckalces and other jewlery then she should be able to wear her hijab to support her religion. I would not think anything less of them either if they had it on and I would not even think of it being weird.
No I dont it shouldent be against dress code its not showing any part of the body if anything it covers part of the body so no theres no reason that it would be against dress code. I wouldent care most girls were those becuase in some countries thay have to wears those so when they come to America they keep weaing them so no I wouldent have a probelm of a runner was wearing one and were in the same race.
1.) I am in cross country. In this, you cannont wear a certain size of headband. I believe that they were just going by rules. I do think that you should be able to practice your religion, but I think that you just need to go by your rules. I think there shouldn't be a huge deal on this.
2.) I literally wouldn't care. First off, they shouldn't be wearing this in the first place. I think if someone was wearing this at a meet, most people you probably tell them to take it off. Just because you want to practice your religion, doesn't mean you can go against rules.
I don't think hijabs shouldn't be against dress code because that's practically discriminating people due to their religion, practically. I wouldn't mind it because its their choice to wear it and I think what their wearing isn't really important.
I agree with you Salvador, I would not be bothered if I saw someone wearing a hijab and I do not think it should be against dress code either. I think that she should wear it if she wants to because it is supporting her religious beliefs and she is brave to be doing that.
No, I think people should be allowed to wear what they want especially if it is related to a religion or culture, and if they do consider this to be against the dress code it is very discrimitory. I agree, I don't think it would affect me or even cross my mind, and I would have no problem with someone wearing one.
I agree with you. It is very discrimitory for the officals to disqualify her just becuase she was wearing a hijab for her religion. If I saw her running beside me it would not make me feel any different or think about it because it is a normal thing for people to wear those.
