A Helpful Scoop!

An elderly woman got help from a friendly officer of the Boston Police Force. K-9 officer John Quinn was out working last Thursday when he saw the older resident struggling to scoop her driveway. John jumped out of his cruiser and took over.

Officer Quinn tells reporters,  " It was the right thing to do. I saw that she needed help so I pulled over and asked her to hand me the shovel, But – bottom line – she reminded me of my mother and I only did for her what I would want someone to do for my mom.”

Opinion: Some people are just so kind. The world would be a better place if there were more people like that. This just goes to show that not all cops are bad people.

Question: If you were driving or walking down the street, would you stop to help someone in need even if you didn't know them?

  • Great job replying!!

  • I think this story is awesome and is a good example that many people could follow, because like you said the world would be a better place if more people were like that. If I saw someone in need of help I most likely would stop and ask someone if they needed help because it is common courtesy!

    • So true! If I were in this situation I would want someone to do the same for me.. helping people just makes you feel better:)

  • Yes, because it's the right thing to help somebody in need like this elderly lady, no matter what age, race, or gender.

    • I agree if I were that age I would want someone to help me

  • I would say it would depend on what they were doing but I guess I would ask them if they needed help because its the right thing to do. For me it also might depend on age somewhat because most people seem to be more willing to help an old person with a task than a young person.

    • I agree! it all depends on the type of person you are.

  • I think that this is a great story! It's so nice to know that there are still kind people out there, especially with all the hatred in the word now-a-days.  It's very nice that this man would do this, especially thinking of his mom. I definitely think that I would consider helping out the elderly if they were in need!

    • I agree with you! With all this negativity in the world it's hard to find those kinds people who are willing to step up and help those around:)

  • I think that a lot of people who are healthy and and do stuff like manual like that , forget about the people who can't do it.  I think if we had more peple like this the world would be a better place. I would try to help if I had time.
