A Glass Bridge?! No Thanks!

In Hebei Province's Hongyagu Scenic Area China, there was a large glass bridge built. Now this isn't just any glass bridge. It is a bridge that spans over a giant canyon and each side of the bridge is at the peak of two mountains. It is about 1,600 feet long and the drop right below your feet is 715 feet to the ground. It is the longest glass bridge in the world.

Now let's talk about what it would feel like to be on this bridge. Not only is it made out of glass and you can see straight down, they also decided to give it a sway. Like what the heck were you thinking! Do you want anyone to step foot on your bridge?! Well apparently people still go because it can fit up to 600 people at a time. One other scary thing to think about is that the glass below your feet is only 1.6 inches thick. I don't know about you, but to me it seems like if you get one super big person on there they are going straight through!

Questions:

1.Would you go on this bridge? If not what point would make you not go on this bridge?

2.If you were to be building this bridge would you do anything different to it?

Answers:

1.I think that it would take a lot of people to tell me to go on it but I think that I eventually would get on it.

2.I think that I would for sure make the glass thicker.

  • Great job overall but be sure to comment three different days.
  • Even though the view would probably be great, I would not go on this bridge mainly because it for one sways and two it is a large drop. If I were to change any thing about this bridge, it would be either making the glass thicker and/or taking away the sway of the bridge.

  • 1. I would go on the bridge because even if it seems scary, it has to meet certain criteria for public use. If it did, then it is safe, even if it doesn't feel like it.

    2. I don't think I would necessarily change anything when building this bridge. I might make the glass thicker just to be safe, but I think it's okay as it is.

  • I think that it would very neat to see but not to walk on. Granted they say its safe but I don't think that i could trust it. If i was the only on the bridge and was paid to walk across it possibly. One things for sure though i bet that it would be very hard to clean.

  • I'm not sure if I would go on this bridge, I would want to see it in person first. I'm not sure if I would do anything different to it, it seems terrifying enough.

  • I think I would definitely NOT go on that bridge unless there was a safety net under it. I think the fact that you can see how far you would fall and that the bridge sways would be the deciding factors that would deter me from going on the bridge. If I were to build a glass bridge I would put a safety net underneath it.

  • I would go on this bridge because it would seem fun because it would seem exciting and interesting.  The extra things that I would do is put lights on the bridge so you can see, or put color lights so it would seem more appealing.

  • I'm partially scared of heights and would be too paranoid about the glass somehow breaking or something to actually make it onto the bridge. Especially if it sways I'd continuously feel like it would sway right into the canyon. I would definitely get rid of the swaying factor because I personally don't like it and it could make others nauseous. If it were possible of the budget, I'd also make the glass a bit thicker because 1.6 inches doesn't sound sturdy enough to me.

  • If it were me, I would not step foot on that bridge. It just doesn't seem safe to step on a bridge that sways in general. Especially glass! If I were to build this bridge, I would make the glass at least 7 inches thick. That way it would seem safe to step on, and it wouldn't sway as much.

  • I would go on the bridge. Do what you want when you want because not everyone is as lucky as you to have that privilege.

I would add lights that change color so people can go on the bridge at night.
