A Cold Case Reopened

On April 3, 2000 two teens went missing in Sparta, Tennessee after never returning home from a party in White County. These teens' names were Erin Foster and Jeremy Bechtel. Erin's brother was the last to see the pair alive earlier that day. The families reported the teens missing after 1 week of them being gone. The police had many leads but they all led to nothing. Some leads even pointed to the teens being murdered.

After the teens' case has been cold for 21 years a scuba diver has found their car they were last seen in. The scuba diver who had found the car was Jeremy Slides. The sheriff had pointed out an area for Jeremy Slides to look in the Calfkiller river for their car. Sure enough Jeremy Slides had found the car with human remains in it. The car’s license plate indicated that the car was in fact Erin Fosters. The human remains are being tested to clarify if they are the remains of the teens.

Jeremy Slides is a very popular youtuber. Slides tries solving cold cases all over the US. He uses sonar technology to solve the cold cases. His youtube channel is called Exploring with Nug. He had tried once before and failed to find the teens car in november. Slides had not told anyone that he had gone looking. After Sheriff  Page saw the video of Slides's first attempt he saw that Slides had better equipment than the police did so that is why Slides was asked to come back.

  • I think that this whole situation is kinda crazy because they would have probably never found or it would have taken the police longer to find the car. I was also wondering or I will be wondering what really was the teenagers' cause of death. I also think that it is unfortunate that it took 21 years for them to find them and i think their families could of still had some shred of hope that they would  have come back home.

  • I think it is really crazy how all this basically was found because of Youtube and social media in general. I will curious to learn if they will determine a cause of death for the two teens. It could have been many things, but I'm guessing they most likely did suicide. I really wonder what all the leads were that even made police think they were murdered.

    • I disagree with your Idea of them doing suicide because I did not metion this in the post but the road next to the river the car was found in did not have side rails at the time of the crach. There are side rails in place today.

  • I think it is good that they found the remains of the teens so the family and the community know what happened to them. I think it is sad that it took 21 years to find the teenage boys and that it was a YouTuber that found them and not the law enforcement.

  • I think its good that they were found but I feel bad for their parents because what if their parents had hope that they were still alive and then they were found dead so now all the hope the parents had is gone now. But atleast they found out what happened to their kids and where they were.

  • It is good the found the remains of the bodies so the family knows they are dead. It is pretty sad a guy from youtube can find the bodies and the police couldnt. It is good that this youtuber came to help give the family reasurance.

    • Jeremy Slides has more advanced technology than the police that is why they were unable to find the car themselfs.

  • I think its good they found what happend so the parents arent sitting there still wondering and I think its very sad what happened Im just wondering why It took so long to find out.

    • The police did not have the reasourses to be able to look for the car because there technlogy was not as advanced compared to Jeremy Slides.

  • I think that it is good that they found the remains because it will give closure to the families of the teens. I think that the case is sad and it is also sad how a youtuber could find the teens but the police couldn't. I am glad that the police asked him to come back to try find them though.
