Massive Storms Leave Hundreds Dead

Devastating Storms unleashed late Friday night and early Saturday morning across central and southern parts of the country. These storms ravished states such as Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, and Mississippi. It’s reported more than 30 tornadoes were moved across the affected states. Causing hundreds dead and millions worth of damage. Many governors of the affected states have sent letters to President Joe Biden seeking federal recovery funds. Biden hasn't had time for a response in full, but is quoted, "in touch with state and local officials as the search for survivors and damage assessments continue.”

This disaster was declared as a state of emergency in Kentucky with the Governor even reporting that the death toll will surpass 80 as bodies are still being recovered. Particularly in Mayfield Kentucky where 110 workers were inside a candle factory when crushing winds collapsed the building to rubble. In the Nashville International airport, it is reported that winds reached a record-breaking 78 mph. These winds have left nearly 30,000 residents without power in the Nashville area.

In my opinion, I believe that this disaster was the worst storm of 2021. I also think that the United States government should send money, supplies, and workers to help clean up the ruble. I think the sooner help is sent to these affected states than the quicker we fix and focus on other problems in the United States. I believe this storm will affect America's economy and infrastructure in the central and southern United States for lots of time to follow.

Questions:

1. Do you think enough is being done to help the affected states?

2. In general, What are your thoughts about these storms?

  • I honestly don't think that Biden is doing what should be done for the people who got affected by the storms. But the states, They are doing everything they can to help eachother and the people most affected by the storms

    • I agree Biden could be doing more with shipping supplies and help to the areas affected by the storms.

  • No I don't think the Biden is doing enough for the people affective by these storms. He should take the time out of his busy scedual to go see them and bring them hope. The state itself I think is doing all that it can be doing but in area's like this it would be nice to have the president come out and show his sympathys especially since there have been deaths.

    • I agree that Biden is not doing enough and that he needs to make time in his schedule.

  • I think that there are lots of ways the affected places are being helped. I agree that those strokes were probably the worst of 2021.  Since these storms left so many without power and dead, rebuilding and recovery should be the most important thing for the government to worry about.

    • I agree that the storms were likely the worst in 2021 so far. I also agree more help should be given to the affected states.

  • I think that there is a lot of effort being put into the affected places. I think that it is the presidents responcabilty to do the most he can for these people. Growing up I have never liked storms and always had a strange fear of them. In the end, the government needs to bring light onto this situation and publicly do things for those affected.

    • I agree that the government needs to shine some light on the devastation brought by the strong storms.

  • I don't think enough is being done. Biden should be trying his best right now to make sure these people have electricity and  some have a place to stay. I think this storm definitely delt some damage, but it was big enough and considering this is the first I've heard of it. It needs to be talked about more. I think instead of him claiming he doesn't have enough time, he should be helping people actually in need.
