Massive Storms Leave Hundreds Dead

Devastating Storms unleashed late Friday night and early Saturday morning across central and southern parts of the country. These storms ravished states such as Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, and Mississippi. It’s reported more than 30 tornadoes were moved across the affected states. Causing hundreds dead and millions worth of damage. Many governors of the affected states have sent letters to President Joe Biden seeking federal recovery funds. Biden hasn't had time for a response in full, but is quoted, "in touch with state and local officials as the search for survivors and damage assessments continue.”

This disaster was declared as a state of emergency in Kentucky with the Governor even reporting that the death toll will surpass 80 as bodies are still being recovered. Particularly in Mayfield Kentucky where 110 workers were inside a candle factory when crushing winds collapsed the building to rubble. In the Nashville International airport, it is reported that winds reached a record-breaking 78 mph. These winds have left nearly 30,000 residents without power in the Nashville area.

In my opinion, I believe that this disaster was the worst storm of 2021. I also think that the United States government should send money, supplies, and workers to help clean up the ruble. I think the sooner help is sent to these affected states than the quicker we fix and focus on other problems in the United States. I believe this storm will affect America's economy and infrastructure in the central and southern United States for lots of time to follow.

Questions:

1. Do you think enough is being done to help the affected states?

2. In general, What are your thoughts about these storms?

  • I feel like our country isn't doing enough to help the injured people that were part of this. We should also have the buildings in areas that this could happen be built stronger and to withstand these conditions so people less people don't die in a falling building because of the weather.

    • I agree that our country isn't doing enough to help those affected by the storms. I also agree that in the future we should build stronger buildings that can withstand strong winds of 80 mph.

  • I have not heard of this which is surprising.  I think the the United States government is not doing enough to help those in need.  I think that our own citizens are not being tended to their needs.  It sounds like a terrible disaster that could affect those states for a long time.

  • I've heard many people say that this was a terrible disaster and I agree that there should be rebuilding as soon as possible so people can have places to stay. These storms have greatly affected those states and I believe it will only get worse. I think these storms are a result of global warming and they're only going to get worse if we don't do something soon.

    • I agree that this disaster was terrible and that we should help those affected by giving supplies and helping rebuild the fallen buildings.

  • I have heard of these storms and it was a terrible disaster. I agree that we should rebuild as quickly as possible so that we can focus on other issues in America. I expect these storms to have a major impact on the economy and infrastructure of the Americas.
    • I agree that the united states government needs to help rebuild those communities affected by the storms. this way the USA can focus on other issues.

  • I have heard about these storms and it is a terrible disaster. I agree that we should rebuild as fast as possible se we can focus on other problems in America. I think these storms will greatly affect Americas economy and infrastructure.

    • I agree that these storms were and terrible disaster and will likely affect America's economy and infrastructure.

  • I belive there could be more done like more workers and money sent to these states to help. If Biden doesn't have time to respond that makes him a bad president becuase he should go to these states and look at the damage himself. More can be done and should be done becuase these are American people that are affected.
