Massive Storms Leave Hundreds Dead

Devastating Storms unleashed late Friday night and early Saturday morning across central and southern parts of the country. These storms ravished states such as Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, and Mississippi. It’s reported more than 30 tornadoes were moved across the affected states. Causing hundreds dead and millions worth of damage. Many governors of the affected states have sent letters to President Joe Biden seeking federal recovery funds. Biden hasn't had time for a response in full, but is quoted, "in touch with state and local officials as the search for survivors and damage assessments continue.”

This disaster was declared as a state of emergency in Kentucky with the Governor even reporting that the death toll will surpass 80 as bodies are still being recovered. Particularly in Mayfield Kentucky where 110 workers were inside a candle factory when crushing winds collapsed the building to rubble. In the Nashville International airport, it is reported that winds reached a record-breaking 78 mph. These winds have left nearly 30,000 residents without power in the Nashville area.

In my opinion, I believe that this disaster was the worst storm of 2021. I also think that the United States government should send money, supplies, and workers to help clean up the ruble. I think the sooner help is sent to these affected states than the quicker we fix and focus on other problems in the United States. I believe this storm will affect America's economy and infrastructure in the central and southern United States for lots of time to follow.

Questions:

1. Do you think enough is being done to help the affected states?

2. In general, What are your thoughts about these storms?

  • Good job overall Blake! I would change up the first sentence as it's pretty much the first semtence of the CNN article.

  • I feel like the government could be doing a lot more to help out the people thay were affected by the storms. These storms have sadly killed many people and left more people hurt or injured.

  • I think the government should be doing lots to help these states out. These storms are terrible things and I couldn't imagine what these families are going through. With that I think our governments should be doing way more.

    • I agree that these storms are terrible things and should be properly handled by the government.

  • I don't think that enough that can be done is happening. I think that biden could focus a little more on America and its problems right now especially if several states have tried to reach him on federal help. I also think that these storms should have better storm warnings and that the people at the candle factory should've had a notice on the bad weather.

  • I think that the government should be doing their best and as much as possible to help these families that are affected by this storm. Storms like this are terrible and sometimes nothing or not enough gets done to help those who need it at times like this. I think that more should be done but that probably won't happen 100%.

    • I agree that not enough is being done to help the people who live in the affected areas. I also agree that the government needs to help the cities affected rebuild and fast.

  • I think the government should be doing as much as possible to help everyone affected by this storm. It's a tragedy how many people died and how many poeple are left without homes. It's sad how so many families lost everything they had just because of one storm.

    • I agree that more should be done to help those states affected by these large storms this past weekend. Also, I agree that it's very sad to think about the families who have lost a loved one or even their house.

  • In my opinion there is not enough done to help these states. These storms are devestating and leaving many people without homes and sometimes  it means losing family members.
