Story:
In Hephzibah, Georgia on March 18, 2 girls got into a fist fight. The fight continued to escalate, eventually leading to others joining in with bats and pipes. Later in the fight, one high school student gets into their car and steers toward 2 boys, barely missing them. As the car backs up, it hits another vehicle. One student, Demajhay Bell, was stabbed in the neck and died 2 days later.
9 people were accused of murder after this fight was over. The sheriff of Richmond County said "any person who participates in a felony that results in loss of life can be charged with that crime."
Right now all 9 people are being held without bond and pending a hearing.
Questions:
1. If you were a bystander, what would you do when this fight broke out?
2. Do you think it is fair for all 9 people to be charged for murder?
3. What do you think will be the outcome of the trial?
My opinion:
If I was a bystander, honestly I would probably just run. There wouldn't be anything I could do to stop the fight and if I tried to stop I might get hurt. I'm not sure if all 9 people should be charged for murder if only 1 person stabbed the boy in the neck. But, according to the sheriff that's what can happen so it makes sense. The outcome of the hearing will be interesting. If I were the judge I would need a lot of evidence to prove that all 9 people are guilty of murder, but I would assume the one that stabbed Bell will definitely be found guilty.

If I was a bystander, I would go search for a teacher or call the police when it escalated to using bats and pipes. I think it's fair because they are high schoolers and they should know better than to fight and they need to take responsibility for their actions. If they hadn't fought then that other student could still be alive and with their family today. I think the person that did the stabbing will get a full sentence while the others will get a lesser sentence since they didn't do the actual killing.
If I was a bystander I would try to stop the fight, knowing it wouldn't happen, I would then call police and anyone willing to help stop it all. I think it is completely fair, all 9 of the students were in the fight and the all contributed to the young man getting killed. I believe that there will be a lot of words said from both sides being they are kids, but any parent willing to defend their child during a trial like this, in my opinion, is not doing any good.
I would call the cops, I wouldn't want to be in the middle of all of the fighting. I don't think that all of the people should be charged with murder, but if that is how things are done I guess it is what will be done. I believe the person that killed Bell should be charged with murder, but the other people I don't what will happen to them.
I would try to break up the fight without getting sucked into it, call the police, or just run. I wouldn't want to get into a fight like that or even be near that kind of fight. I do because if they continued to fight then it is their fault just ass much as the person who did the stabbing. I think that all the participants will be charged with murder and will receive a long sentence.
That's an interesting point of view. Do you really think that a person who just punched another person should really be charged for the crime another person committed?
I agree. I don't think they will be able to convict all 9 people. But, hopefully, the one that actually stabbed the person is convicted.

Why do you believe they were all involved in the murder? It was only one person who stabbed the boy, not the other 8 or 9.
