79 Students Kidnapped from School in Cameroon

On monday, November 5th at least 79 students and 3 staff members were taken from Presbyterlan Secondary School Nkwen in Bamenda (the capital of the north west region). The children range from 11 to 17 in age. The northwest regions govenor, Adolphe Lele L'Afrique, determined the separatist militias were behind the attack. He has also ordered a widespread search to find these children. Many parents and human rights groupd are in uproar about this, and just wish the children will return home safely. I believe students should feel safe in school and it is definetly a violation of human rights for a group to come in and take them. If I were one of the children who got kidnapped I would be terrified, but I hope I would fight back or find some way to escape.

Many human rights organization believe students should feel safe, and political problems shouldn't make children the target. Do you agree?

What would you do if you were one of the children who were kidnapped?

  • Good job Anna! Be sure to get in and comment three different days instead of just two. Also, be sure to capitalize words that should be such as Monday.

  • The students likely had nothing to do with whatever caused the militia to become upset, so they should not be involved in the politics behind the attack. I would try to fight and escape if I was kidnapped

  • Yes. I would be very scared and worried.

  • I agree because when you come to school you should feel safe and be safe inside and outside the school. I would try ot make a scence or do something that is making the kidnapper not focus.

  • I do agree because most of the time teachers say this is a safe place for you to come you should want to come to school. I would probably be scared and want my famliy because a lot of bad things would be going through my mind and thats not a good thing.

    • While teachers say it is a safe space I don't necessarily agree sometimes, based on the the horrible actions being put upon schools. I would be very scared if I were kidnapped too, but I'd try to remain calm.

  • I whole heartedly agree, in America, school is mandatory. So if we have to be here, why can't we feel safe? I would wait it out and if it were a few weeks later I would help come up with a plan of escape.

  • I agree, I think that no one should have the fear of being kidnapped. If i was one of the children that got kidnaapped im not sure how or what i would do. I would be very very afraid.

  • I agree because a student should be feeling safe at school where they are learning , instead in this story the students didn't really feel safe at all. If I was in that situation I would probably have pepper spray and my phone on me , whoever kidnapped me I would spray the pepper spray and then call the police and let them know that I got kidnapped.

    • It's horrible all the things children have to go through when they are just trying to get an education. Schools should be a safe space, but they seem to be far from it right now.
