68,244 Pounds of Chicken Nuggets Recalled

On October 25, 2018, gluten-free chicken nuggets were produced by Perdue Foods, established in Salisbury, Maryland. After 3 instances where consumers complained to the firm of Perdue Foods about wood being found in their chicken nuggets, the company quickly recalled the product. Perdue Foods claims that the incident during the production had minimal contact with other packages so only a few bags of nuggets may have had wood particles in them. No reports of illness from the nuggets has been confirmed, but the company suggests seeing a doctor and throwing out or returning any of the gluten-free nuggets that are in consumers' freezers if concerned about the issue. To me I think when making gluten-free chicken nugggets there can be mistakes that are made that may result in customers thinking that there is someting very wrong with the product they have purchased. How consumers associated chicken nuggets with wood pieces in them is beyond me, but I think that the so called wood particles are just pieces of mishappen gluten-free breading. Even though the chicken nuggets had an experation date of a year later on October 25, 2019, Perdue foods of course needed to recall all 68, 244 pounds of the product in order to prevent any further customers from buying wood contaiminated chicken nuggets.

1.) Would you still trust the company to purchase from even after the recall? Why or why not?

2.)Have you ever had any experiences with recalled food? Did you contact the company?

  • Well done!!

  • I personally wouldn't buy anything from the company again, even though its currently a one time mistake, because I'd associate the brand with the incident and don't want to risk them messing up again. They'll get bad publicity but will probably make corrections to their production of the nuggets so it's not really that big of deal besides all the chicken nuggets wasted but I'm just kind of picky and cautious. I've never had an expericence with recalled food.

  • I would trust the company after the recall because stuff happens but it is clearly unacceptable to let that slip through their hands. But still, it's chicken nuggets so I would trust the company after.

  • I wouldn't buy from the company again because that shows that they weren't very careful with the packaging and distributing of their product. However, I think that they learned a good lesson from he whole tabacle. I have never had any experiences with recalled food.

  • I would not trust Predue Foods after the recall of 68,244 pounds of chicken nuggets for many reasons. One reason i think that is because it could easily happen again and be in my food if they do not fix what needs to be fixed and take other precausions to prevent the same thing happenening again or something even worse.

I have never had any experiences with recalled food. I do think that i would contanct the company if something bad happen with their brand of food i ate. I would contact them because i would want them to know there is a big issue and could be one of the first few to notice and i feel like if i contacted them i could protect many people and make sure they resolve the problem.

    • In my opinion, it is extremely important for food companies to take as many precautions as they can when producing food for the public. Obviously Perdue Foods did not take enough of them this time, but mistakes can happen with any and every company. I strongly agree with you on your second response. As a customer I find it very important to give feedback to the company I am purchasing from whether there is a problem with the product or not.

  • I would still trust them because they only made one major mistake so far. However if they make more and more mistakes I would no longer trust them or do business with them. I've never expierenced recalled food, but if I ever in the future eat recalled food I would call the company who gave me the food and then go to my doctor.

    • I like your thinking! I feel I would do exactly the same, but hopefully the company calls out the recall of the product before I eat it.

  • I would still trust them. I don't mind if I get a little something in my food if it doesn't effect my health. Plus, the way that the company handled the situation showed how much they cared. They lost a lot of money taking it all back and telling people not to eat it. That was a big risk they put on themselves to keep consumers safe.

    • I strongly agree with you. Overall, if the company wants to remain credible, they need to recall their products and own up to their mistakes when needed to keep their customers safe.
