In Centralia, Pennsylvania the Centralia Coal Minehas been on fire for over 50 years. A fire broke out in the town dump, that was sitting over a strip mining pit. The fire spread to the coal underneath causing the blaze to spread to the underground mines. Efforts to stop the blaze started too late and the fire traveled towards the town. Look through the pictures and articles that go with them and give your opinion on if the Government could have done a better job to extinguish the fire.

I think that a lotdifferent could have been done there like the fire shouldn't have happened in the first place but yet why don't the government rebuild the town where its at now and get people to move back in.
The town still has burning coal underneath. The ground is unsafe.
I don't think the fault solely falls on the government's shoulders. Centralia sounds like a small town, I think the town should have done more to prevent the fiasco. But, hey, what happens to coal anyway?
