After life threatening temperatures flooded states around the country, a few 100 homeless people in chicago found themselves not having to worry about the cold. Cadence Payne, the broker, stated “it was a spur of the moment” event, and paid for rooms, cloths, and food at a hotel allowing over 100 homeless citizens have a place to stay while temps continued to drop.  “It was 50 below, and I knew they would be sleeping on ice so I had to do something,” Cadence later stated. She paid for 30 rooms costing $70 dollars each at the Amber Inn. She later posted on instagram asking if people could help transfer these people and soon trucks and SUVs pulled up with volunteer drivers came to help with the situation.

  • If you were in this type of situation what would you do?

If I were caught in this type of situation I would do whatever I could to help honestly, It breaks my heart to see people suffering like that so I would try to help as much as I could.

    2) Would you help in this type of situation even if it wasn’t freezing and it was just a typical day? Or would you not think of it as much because its not at life threatening temps?

Personally speaking I would try to help even if it was a normal day. Though if I’m being honest I don't help as much as I should on a typical day in say the summer. I think that when we aren't suffering from wether or other situations we don't think about others as much as opposed to when we are struggling with the weather as well.

  • Good job on your summary but you should have replied quite a few more times.

  • That is so nice of somebody to do. If the homeless didn't have a place to go, they could have frozen to death because of the coldness. First off, if it wasn't freezing, it wouldn't be "this type of situation", and if I had enough money maybe I would.

  • I would try to help and contribute to the situation because no one deserves to be outside in temperatures that cold. I would still try to help because no matter what day it is these people need help getting back onto their feet and it would be a great start to help them further their life.

  • If I was in this type of situation I don think I would pay for 30 rooms for 70 dollars maby like 15 I would help but dont that much I got yo worry abou tmy family and saying warm for are selves.

I would help some but not as much as the other person did I would focuse mostly on my family and making sure are house is ready for the harsh weather

  • If I was in this situation I would do whatver I could to help anyone. Becuase it's sad to see what's happening to these people and I would try to help out as much as I could. I would help if it was a normal day or cold. No one should suffer from extreme cold and we should help them.

  • People should not have to pass away due to financial circumstance. Its a great thing that people banded together for a great cause. I wouldn't beg for people's help, because I would have a shred of pride in myself, because I should not have to take away from others because I can't help myself. Though even with saying that, I really don't want to move onto the afterlife because of the cold weather. I would be more than appreciative of the people who do this.

  • If I were in the same situation that Cadence was in I would have done everything that I could do to help the homeless get out of the cold and find shelter. Althought the weather was 50 below that still would'nt stop me. Many people struggle with money and finding the things that they nees. Sometimes it isn't their falt. I would try and get all the help I can from others to donate or volunteer.

  • Considering the fact that it was fifty below zero, I would definitely help homeless people find shelter. This story really goes to show that it is easy to take things for granted. Even something like having a roof over my head every day I take for granted. It is sad to even think some people don't even have homes.

  • 1. I think I would try to help by bringing food for them. They would be starving and I wouldn't want them to suffer through that.

    2. I wouldn't think of it as much. Stuff like this never really gets attention unless it's really cold or really hot. Also they live outside all the time I'm sure after awhile they would become less aware of how hot or cold it is.

  • I think that if the weather was severe and could be dangerous for homeless people to be out in I would help however I could, but on a regular day I would probably be reluctant to help because most people that are homeless are in that situation because of something they did earlier in life.
