In a limo crash that happened on Saturday at 1:55 pm, twenty people were killed in upstate New York. Eighteen people in the limo were killed including the driver, the other two were pedestrians. Police say the limo failed to stop at a T intersecton and went though a parking lot where it hit another car. The car that was hit by the limo hit the two pedestrians that were killed. National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Robert Sumwalt said during the press conference. "I've been on the board for 12 years and this is one of the biggest losses of life that we've seen in a long, long time." The area where the crash happened is a known danger area because of the steep hill before the stop sign. The crash is still being investigated.
Do you think this accident was a result of road conditions, mechanical conditions of the limousine, or other? Why?
I think that crash had to have something to do with the condition of the driver or the vehicle because there is nothing said in the article about the road being slick and even if it was I don't think the limo would have traveled as far as it did if the driver was trying to stop at the stop sign.
Knowing that this area is a dangerous place, what would you do to fix it if you were in charge?
I would put up more signs warning people that there is a stop sign coming up down the hill. I may even close that part of the road and see if there could be an alternate way to get where that road takes you.

Great job Kelby! Be sure to capitalize key words in your title.
I feel like they should maybe consider doing something to make that area more safe, but then I feel like the driver sould be extra conscious and aware of his surroundings. The driver may have gotten distracted or could be his health or bad desicions.
No I do not think that it was any of those conditions. It could be but it was probably the drivers fault. Maybe he was intoxicated or just speeding. I would let people know that the road is dangourous and probably regulate it more. If there are in pot holes id fill them, add more police to the street for speeding. I would also lower the the speed limit.
I'm guessing the reason the driver crashed the limo was simply because, like the national transportation safety board chairman said, the stop sign wasn't able to be seen from a far distance because of the hill. It was either that or the driver blacked out or something. If I were in charge during this time, I would change the road however I could to make it safer for other drivers.
I believe the driver is at fault for the crash. The accident easily could have been prevented if the driver was paying more attention to his speed and the road signs. I don't believe the area is dangerous, because I think the crash could have just as easily have happened anywhere else.
I agree that the driver is most likley at fault, but I'm not sure that it could have been easily prevented. The area is known for being dangerous, so it is probably not an easy area for commercial drivers to be in.
I don't think the crash had anything to do with the car or road conditions. I believe the driver is mostly likely at fault with the killings. I would make it more noticible that there is a stop coming.
I agree that the stop sign needs to be made more noticeable and that the road conditions probably didn't have anything to do with this crash. I also beleive that the driver is at fault for the crash and killings.
I think it was because of the driver. The driver might've been speeding, and then forgot to stop at the intersection. I would put warning signs a mile in advance to where the stop sign is. I know that when I drive, if I am going down a hill, I won't be prepared to stop. So I feel as if there was a sign a mile in advance that people would be able to stop quicker.
I agree that speeding could have been a possibilty in this situation. I think that a mile or so is a good distance to start warning people of the stop sign, especially because it is on such a steep hill.
