The Lewis Central high school students experienced a shocking event yesterday afternoon (Jan. 4th). During the lunch hour a small explosive went off right under the table where many students were seated. When authorities arrived, they discovered the small explosive device was homemade. According to school officials, the explosion was actually from a firework, officials also added that the sound was quite loud and caused some smoke in the lunchroom. The school dealt with the issue right away and no student was injured allowing everyone to go back to their normal day. CBPD officials say a joint investigation was in place by the Police Department, Fire Department and School Security, two students have been taken into custody for their involvement in the explosion. As of now for the two students involved, one is charged with Arson 1st Degree and the other is charged with Possession of an Explosive or Incendiary Devise.
Questions:
1. What thoughts would be going through your head if you were sitting at the table where the explosive went off?
2. Why do you think the two students involved did this?
My answers:
If I were to have been sitting at the table I would be very freaked out as to what just happened, but i'd also be thinking about how lucky to be no one was hurt including myself. I think the students did this to get attention or to feel "cool". Its scary knowing that they had the ability to do such a thing tho and I cant imagine how much worse the situation could have been.

Great job overall Chloe! Be sure to capitalize words in your title.
I would be extremely scared if an explosive went off by my feet. There's no telling what it could be. The students were probably trying to get a laugh out of it, people do all kinds of dumb things to be "popular".
If this would of went off by my feet, i would of been thinking that the school was under attack. All this stuff going around with school shootings and bombers, you have to take everything seriously. It may not of injured anyone but either way it was still an explosion due the the chemical compounds inside. I believe the two kids did this because they thought it would of been a funny joke not knowing that it could of seriously injured someone. I also believe that the kids were given the right charges and it was definitely the right call to put them into custody.
I think that I would be a little freaked out at what just happened if I was sitting at that table. I probably wouldn't really know what to do and would be a little bit confused until I figured out what exactly happened. I think these students did this to try and be funny or as a senior prank type thing.
I would probably freak out if an explosive went off under my table. I think the two students just did it as like a joke or to get attention and all that.
If I was sitting at the lunch table, I would have been very scared and nervous, not knowing what that noise was and if someone was shooting at us or not. I would probably be nervous to go through the rest of the school day not knowing if, there could be another explosive. For students to do something like this is because they are wanting attention and probably wanting to get out of school that day, which didn't happen. I'm just glad no one got hurt!
Having something like that happen would be a very scary situation. The thought of wondering whats actually going on at the time is nerve-wracking because you really don't know what to expect.
If I was sitting at the lunch table, I would have been shocked and scared at first. Not knowing what happened and only hearing a loud sound would be scary. I think they did it for attention and to be funny but the outcome didn't turn out that way.
I would be really surprised and shocked if something like that happened. I would consider everyone very lucky to get out of it uninjured. The two students probably taught that it would have been a good prank. I'm sure that they didn't think the security aspect fully through before doing it.
If I was in the lunch room when this happened I probably would have just ran out of the room and tried to get to a safer location. I think that the students responsible for the explosion were trying to play it off as a joke and just took it way too far. I'm sure they didn't know how bad the consequences for something like this are. They had to learn the hard way about taking jokes too far.
