15 Year Old Gold Medalist

Yulia Lipnitskaya is the Russian figure skater and is a idol to all young girls. The 15 year old  has become the youngest athlete ever to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. She made history that day, by becoming the youngest athlete to win gold for her country. She did not act or look nervous performing at the Olympics, not once. Yulia skates with such maturity at her young age that makes her stand out, and the incredible flexibility she has. The first time she step foot on ice was at age 4 and by age 10 she was winning every competition she was in. He mother made the decision and dropped everything to move to Moscow because she trusted that her daughter would have outstanding results in this sport. In the end she did have outstanding results.  Through out the year of 2011-2012 Yulia did not have one fall in any of her competitions. She has proved to the entire world that she is here to stay and isn't going anywhere. She is not a kid, but she is an athlete.

Yulia was one of my favorite athletes to watch in the Sochi Olympics, she had so much pressure more then we will ever know at the age of 15. She handled herself very well, which was inspiring cause things didn't always go her way.

Could you have handled the amount of pressure she had? Would you have dropped everything not knowing if your child was going to make it big? How would you feel performing on the Olympic stage? How would you feel if you made history?

  • Well done Jordyn!

  • You would have to give up basically your whole life to be a skater at that level.  Very inspiring story for young athletes around the world.

  • She has no life for sure, I hope she finally stops training and gets some friends, because I'm positive she is really lonely and spends more time skating than hanging out with friends.

  • She has got to be the most talented 15 year old I've heard of. I don't know how you could handle that much pressure i would end up sleepless from all the pressure.

  • If I was 100% positive knowing that my child would be successful, I would definitely move. I think the mother did the right thing for her, after all she made it to the Olympic's and got gold. If I performed on Stage, I think I would be nervous and I would stumble a lot. But after that I would feel good.

  • She is amazing and works very hard for this. She deserves the gold medal that she got at the Olympics. I love watching her skate and she is a good role model.

  • I don't think I could be under as much pressure as she is, but I think she handles it a lot better than any other 15 year old would.  I also don't think I could have dropped everything just to try and see if my child could make it big or not.  I'm sure her family is glad they did everything they did now because of how successful she is.

    • I'm sure her family was thrilled after she got gold, I bet her family was very happy with her decision.

  • I watched her perform and win! She is amazing! The one thing that really stuck out to me was her lack of expression on her face during and right after her performance. I think that if I were in her situation I would have lots of emotion to show but she apparently can hold it in and contain herself, which gives her a step up on the competition at such a young age.

    • I couldn't agree more she was very mature with how she handled things. Very Impressed!!
