100,000 people missing in Mexico

100,000 people have gone missing in Mexico. The people are in clandestine graves across the desert, squashed into communal pits, or chopped into pieces and spread across the desiccated hillsides. Many are buried without a name and often the only things left of the person is bloody empty clothing. All over Mexico mothers wander around trying to find anything they can to lead them to their missing son or daughter. Most parents never find out what has happened to their son or daughter. All they know is that they are gone and there has been no sign of them. A New York Times photographer went to Chihuahua state and documented the search by taking pictures of the clothing found with unidentified bodies in it that was preserved by investigators.

Since people started going missing in 1964 murder rates have climed now topping 30,000 a year. Bodies have been strung up on bridges or tossed onto roadsides as warnings to appear on newscasts. This has gotten so bad that tourture techniques have been getting nicknames. Pictures of the faces of the ones missing have been hung up on banners and posters on public squares all over Mexico. One of the widest know cases of people disappearing in Mexico was when 43 students went missing from a school and they have not found out yet if they are dead or not everyones just assumes they are. From September 2020 to July 2021 an additional 6,453 people were reported as missing and everyday across the country more people continue to disappear. For now the parents of the missing remain searching for them without knowing if they are dead or alive but determined to find out some sort of way. What would you do if one of your family members went missing for a long period of time and you didn't know what happened to them?

  •  Alexus-Be sure to put write your summary in yur own words. It needs more of your voice.

  • If anyone in my family went missing and it became a long time I would probly loose my mind. I think I would do everything that I could to locate them and I wouldnt stop untill I found somthing. I would have troubles trying to understand what could have happend and where they could be and hope that I wouldnt be alone in trying to find however was missing. My dad had a sister that went missing and 8 years later his sister got ahold of the family and said she was in Australia adn to let them know that she was alive and ok and had a whole new family.

  • I cant imagine what I would do if one of my family members went missing. I would definetly notify the authorities if something like that happend to me. I cant belive that that many people went missing. It is really crazy to think that stuff like that happens in Mexico.

  • If one of my family members went missing for a long period of time I would be very nervous. I would tell the police and have them go on a search to help look for them. I would think back to the last time I saw them and where they were and I would try to use as many clues as I could.

  • If one of my family members randomly dissapeared for a long time I would first notify the police and see what they can do to help, I would also look for clues on why they went missing and try to find them mysleves. If 100,000 people all dissapeared there is no way there weren't any clues left behind to find them.

  • If one of my family members went missing I would look for them and expect the police or a reliable source to help. I can assume the the police are very piled up with the amount of people that went missing and are struggling to to keep up with it all.

  • This issue is something I haven't even heard of which probably means it needs to be better handled. It sounds like Mexico needs to put more laws down to help the issue of missing individuals. If one of my family members went missing, I would expect some sort of help from a reliable source. I would be devistated if a family member went missing.

  • I would probably search them, think all the time aboutit, couldt be focused of something elese. I feel so horrible for all the people in Mexico they have to feel that!

Maybe I would support the police with money or whatever just to imagine is horrible to me.

  • I feel terribe for anyone personally affected by this. It is horrifying that people could hang bodies over bridges. I can't even begin to imagine how these parents feel without knowing what has happened to their children. If there is a way to stop this people need to act immediatly. This is a crazy big number when we are talking about lives.

  • I would be terrified and devastated. I wouldn't know what to think or do. I would try to go find them and ask around of people have seen them. I would pray that there okay and will come home.
