10 Foot Python found in Christmas Tree

Leanne Chapman can home to a very large, frightening surprise on Thursday in Australia when she noticed a 10 foot python curled around her christmas tree. Well, not right away. Upon first aproaching the front porch, Leanne and her partner first noticed a couple Butcher birds freaking out on their porch. Not knowing the reason, Leanne's partner pulled out his cellphone and began recording the birds... leaning against the tree in the process. It didn't take long before he realized he was not just leaning on a tree. The couple jumped away from the giant snake in surprise, but ultimately decided to leave it alone, allowing it to later slither away after wishing them a brief "Merry ChrHISSSSStmas".

I guess that's just how those Australian's role. "Oh, 10 foot python? Again? Ah, it'll wander off eventually, just like that foot long spider we found in the shower last week..."

Forget the kangaroos, I'm never moving to Australia.

Leanne Chapman was alerted to the python's presence by birds "kicking off on the balcony."

What would you do if you came home to a scene like this?

- Probably be very, very, freaked out at first, but as long as it is eventually removed from my house, I wouldn't be too worried. I actually kinda like snakes... as long as they don't strangle me in my sleep, but you know, its fine... And maybe there is a plus side to this! If you have a house cat, this'll keep them from scaling the tree...

Would you ever consider living in Australia with crazy animals like foot long spiders and 10 foot snakes?

 Imma pass, but thanks.

    • Yeah that is fair. See, I might be a little freaked out if there was a snake this big out in the middle of Iowa, but if I were accustomed to this sort of wildlife, I wouldn't be too concerned as long as I get it out somehow. The sand or snakes in Australia isn't what bugs me though... its the spiders...

  • If I came home to this I would be extremely concerned. It's winter in Iowa and phythons are cold blooded animals, so the snake should be dead. Beyond that, 10 foot pythons are not a regular occourance here. Maybe if I knew one of my neighbors had a snake/python I wouldn't be as alarmed, but this would be extremely freaky otherwise.

    • I agree. It definitely would be very frightening and odd to find a snake like that in the middle of Iowa. My first assumption would be that it is someone's pet if anything. I don't understand how a ten foot python could have found itself in Harlan Iowa otherwise.

  • I agree with you, I do not like snakes at all, so I would be very scared and not happy if I found this in my tree. I would instantly call someone for help to try and get it off of my tree. Australia seems like a really cool place, but I do not see myself ever living there especially because of my fear of snakes.

    • Actually I really like snakes! ... as long as they don't bite. I think they are really cool creatures and I don't have a huge fear of them unless they're a really dangerous species. I'd say a python is pretty dangerous, but they are also pretty slow I beleive. As long as I keep my distance I am fine with them.

  • I would never live in Austrailia. I would definantly visit for vaction though. I wouldn't be able to handle intrusions like this, or ones with giant spiders, escpecially if they were a common thing. Australia seems cool and all, but I'd like to stick with the occasional gardener snake or and a spider or two.

    • Agreed. Australia seems like a great place to visit. I would love to go surfing and see the kangaroos... but maybe not so much the spiders. Those things freak me out even when they're only half an inch long, but A FOOT LONG SPIDER? NO THANKYOU.

  • If I saw a snake like this just chilling in my christmas tree, I'd move then and there. Though I'm kidding (maybe), I would be very spooked and wouldn't go around it. I'd probably find someone else to get it out for me. Small snakes are okay, sometimes even cute, but this? Nope, not handling that.

    • Haha, yeah okay fair point. That poor Christmas tree though... it must be flattened. But yeah, I agree. Little snakes are cute but the bigger ones, I'll admit are a little more threatening. I don't think I would have moved the snake myslef either

  • I HATE snakes, I would not be happy if I found this in my tree. I would call someone to come and get it for me because I will not be doing it myself. Also, Australia would be an amazing place to go but the snakes really scare me and I would not live there because of them.
