Week of September 18 to September 22

Monday-

US Native American Policies- Assimilation- a way of making them white. We sent them to white schools to learn English. We wanted them to become american, we didn't want to fight them so we tried to change them to be like us.

Kansas-Nebraska Act 1854- we kept pushing the Native Americans further and further west. The government opened up Oklahoma and Indian territory for settlement. We killed their buffalo to get rid of the Indians. 

Dawes Act 1887- Gave land to Native American  families so they could farm. 160 acres per family. 80 for single adults. Tribes couldn't own land, but individuals could, Native Americans could be citizens if they took the land. The goal was to Americanize Native-Americans. Native American lost their land. Ended in the 1930's under president Roosevelt's Indian Reorganization Act.

Presentation- Battle of tongue river August 29, 1865 it was fought in the tongue river in Wyoming. The U.S. won.

Battle of Hundred Slain (Fetterman Fight) December 6-21 1866. Indians were led by crazy horse and Red cloud. The Indians won the attack.

Battle of wounded knee- December 15, 1890 Leaders sitting bull and buffalo bill. The Americans won. 

Sand creek massacre- It happened in sand creek, Colorado. November 29, 1864. Part if the American Indian War. America Won.
