Do video games promote violence?

Many people say that video games promote violence, especially parents. Parents have stated that violent video games affect their children, making them bully others at school, act out at home, and increase stress. Scientists have recognized this issue and decided to conduct an experiment. Children of the ages 9-12 and around 345 college students were assigned to either play a non violent or violent video game, those who played the violent video games showed more aggression and toxicity then those who played the non violent video games. I believe that it depends on the person who is playing the video game for it to have a negative or positive effect on them.

The university of Utah studdied this issue and relized that most of the vidoe games children promote killing in wars, criminal behavior, Bad language, sexual content, ect. They also state that depending on how much the child plays the game vaires the negitave impact on them.

The same cannot be said for those who played the non violent video games, some parents/guardians limited their kids to playing games like farming simulator, cooking simulator, ect and reported that their children started acting kinder towards kids at school and not having attitude or acting out towards their parents. Though this is good, a majority of children are more focused on their video games than their school work. This causes their grades to start slipping when they don't realize, which is why I think the screen time should be limited to only weekends.

  1. Do you think video games promote violence?
  2. Do you think that nonviolent video games are better for children?

  • Great topic choice and summary Zach! I would like to have you seen the other side. There are studies that say the opposite. I would also have liked to have seen your thoughts on this topic as well. The bit iddue is that you didn't reply nearly enough times. Be sure to check back and reply three times per page,

  • Do you think video games promote violence? I belive it depends on the game like fortnite i belive can but a more chill game like farm sim i feel dose not promote vilince if anything it makes there be less viliounce but like i said cod and all shoter games i belive can depending on the person.

  • I think that's where a lot of the idea's start from but at the same time i don't think that's where it all comes from. It can come from depression. Like it comes from different things. But violent games make a lot of kids want start things.

  • I dont think that video games promot violence, but also it depends what games you are playing and how you affect off of them. I do think noviolent video games are better for children till a certian age because it would teach them things parents wouldnt want to see in there house hold or at school.

  • Do you think video games promote violence? i my personal opinion i belive that sertan video game could promote violence because they could corelate killing people on their game to having violent aggressions with people even if they wernt even doing anything wrong.

  • I think that there are ratings on most media packages for a reason. I see no difference between letting your seven-year-old play Call of Duty and letting them watch Deadpool and Wolverine. Parents should just stay consistent with the amount of violence and graphic content they allow their children to witness, no matter what specific media it may come from.

  • I believe that video games can cause violence, if not violence then aggression. I feel like nonviolent video games are a better option until they are a mature adult.  As long as they are old enough they should be playing violent games.

  • 1. Do you think video games promote violence? I think video games with violence don't affect people. I think they may promote some violence but they don't have an effect on how you act.

    2. Do you think that nonviolent video games are better for children? I think both types have the same effect on children.

  • Do you think video games promote violence? Yes, violent video games can promote violence because studies show that people that play violent games tend to act more aggressively. The stuff in these games, like killing and bad behavior, can affect how children behave in real life.

  • I don't think that it promotes violence. But if you are playing too much your mind would start to change and show signs of violence. If you are at a young age, you could easily be influenced. That is why games are allowed for a certain age group. But if you pick up violence from games at an older age then that is most likely another problem.
