Monday - watched "Girl Rising"

Tuesday - Took Map Quiz over Western Africa, Continued Presentations - Racism

Brown v. Board of Education - established segregation of public schools unconstitutional, origin of Civil Rights movement

Civil Rights act - introduced by Lyman Trumbull - president Jackson vetoed.

Civil Rights Act - 1964 - no discrimination based on color, national origin, sex, race, and religion. - proposed by JFK, passed by LBJ.

Civil Rights Act of 1965 - Forbids discrimination inn voting, South used poll taxes and literacy test to prohibit them from voting.

Civil Rights Act of 1968 - protects the buyer/renter from discrimination regarding sale, rental, and financing of houses. 

Classroom - Homeschooling - teaching through the "White Man's" point of view. Teachers stereotyping black students.

Wednesday - No School

Thursday - Watched Girl Rising

Friday - Started Central Africa Map -

James Comey - Director of FBI was fired.

Continued Presentations - Racism

More punishment people of color - 3x more suspension/expulsion

5% white - suspension - 16% black

Statistics in entertainment.

10.8% of speaking characters were black, 4.2% Hispanic, 5% Asian, 3.6% mixed races

top 100 movies of 2012 - 24% of character are black, 76% are white

93% Oscars go to white

Workplace - Harassment has doubled seance 1970s 6,977 cases in 2007

Home Depot paid 125,000 dollars 

Wages - 15 dollars for black - 21 dollars white

more blacks/Hispanics feel like they are treated unfairly at the workplace.

Reasons for Racism

Racist option in family, loop of stereotypes, put frustrations out on others, "They take our jobs and handouts from government",
