Switzerland is always neutral. Known for a lot of things. Good country. Hitler could've taken them over. Had plans to take them over. But stayed out of it. Shot down some U.S. airplanes. U.S. didn't have the right to fly over them. Accidentally bombed  Switzerland, thought it was Germany. Switzerland wasn't big on Jews.  Go to a camp if caught. A lot of Jews had a lot of money in their banks

The US in WWII- Rosie the Riveter represents women in the work space. Men can do it so can women.

Allied Powers- Main powers: Great Britain, Soviet Union, US, China, and France. Australia, Philippines, Canada, Greece, Mexico

US after WWI- We went back to isolationism. Never signed the Treaty of Versailles. Wilson(Democrat) vs Congress(Republican controlled) Join the League of Nations or go back to Isolationism? By joining League of Nations we'll keep peace. Congress thinks if we join the League of Nations then we will be all of the wars. Republican Warren Harding won the 1920 presidential election with a promise "Return to Normalcy" The US went back to focusing on America in the 1920's and 1930's.  Didn't join.

4 Power Pact-US, GB, France and Japan would respect each other's possessions in the Pacific.

5 Power Pact-Signed by GB, The US, Japan, France, and Italy. Designed to prevent an arms race. It limited construction of battleships, battle cruisers, and aircraft carriers. Did not restrict cruisers, destroyers or submarines

9 power pact- guaranteed Chinese independence upheld the Open Door Policy. Signed by the US, Japan, china, France, GB, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, and Portugal

Kellogg Briand Pact- US did not sign the Kellogg-Braind Pact denouncing war as a means to settle disputes

Neutrality in General- The Neutrality Acts were passed by the US in the 1930's in response to the issues in Europe and Asia that eventually led to WWII. They were caused by the desire to be isolationist in the US following WWI. Passed to ensure that the US would not become involved in the World conflicts(war)

Interventionists vs. Isolationists- Many Isolationists wanted to hold back Interventionists. Should've helped them. Led up to Pear Harbor. The American First Committee kept us out of the war.  Be Neutral. Start trading with countries at war. Eventually going to pull you into the war. Stay neutral?? We have no worries in America, Europe is suffering from several diseases. Happy we don't have anything to worry about when we sleep.

US Neutrality Acts during 1930's Neutrality Act of 1935-Stop trading with countries at war. N Act 1936- Stop loaning money to countries at war. N act 1937- Cash and Carry system-Weapons not included N act 1939- Cash and Carry system Weapons INCLUDED. Carry it back in your own ships.

Bases for Destroyers- Passed in September, 1940 between the US and GB. Fifty US destroyers were given to GB in evangelic for land rights(for 99 years) on British Colonies for naval or air base purposes. Knew they needed military.. We gave it to them.

End of US Neutrality-Lend Lease Act- The end of neutrality for the US came with the Lend-Lease Ac, passed March, 1941. Allowed the US to sell, lend or give war materials to nations the US wanted to support. US gave $50 billion($650 billion today) to allied nations throughout war

Selective Training and Service Act-Passed in September 1940 and ended in 1947. Required that men between the ages 21 and 35 register for the draft. Extended to all men aged 18 to 45 once US entered war. First peacetime draft in US history.

How did the draft work? Given a number. Who's ever number is picked they're drafted. Local draft boards were set up from coast to coast. In Washington, papers with the numbers 1 though 7,836 on them were put into capsules, one number to a capsule. Capsules put into bowl if your number is picked you are drafted.  Once your number is drafted the military owns you.

Atlantic Charter- signed in August 1941 between the US(FDR) and GB(Churchill) Defined the allied goals for the post war world. Many similarities to Wilson's 14 points
