Monday- No school

Tuesday- 

War Finance Committee and War bonds- Over the course of the war 85 million Americans purchased bonds totaling approximately $185 billion. Helped pay war. It was an investment for US citizens. As low as $18.75 per bond. Ten years late gov't paid out $25. 

Japanese Interment Camps- were usually in the west and one in Arkansas. Like Army barrettes. Wasn't slave labor camps. Some worked. Children went to school. Weren't killing. A lot of racism involved. Women working, packing food for troops, secretarial, guys in fields doing labor. Had sports. In 1993 Bill Clinton wrote a letter to the Jap Americans and they were also given money. Kind of like an apology. 

WWII Semester Test Questions- BE able to describe the causes (In Asia, Europe and for the US), effects and, major events of WWII. Be able to describe why the US and Allies won WWII. 

Causes of WWII In Europe- Treaty of Versailles, The Great Depression, Hitler's Actions in the 1930's, Mussolini's actions in the 1930's, Failure of the league of Nations, Policy of Appeasement, Hitler's invasion of Poland, Rise of nationalism. 

Causes in Asia- The great Depression, Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931, and Japanese invasion of China in 1937. 

Causes in US- Pearl Harbor, Quit trading supplies(Oil) with Japan in the summer of 1941, Tough policies towards Japan in fall of 1941, Pearl Harbor attack. 

Effects of WWII on US- Stimulated economy, 17 million new jobs created. Average wages increases 30%. Middle class greatly expanded. Post War boom, Baby boomer generation. Lots of houses built. During WWII the gov't got stronger and stronger. Federal power during the war increased. Shifted from state laws to federal laws- important during civil rights era and Vietnam war. More women involved in the workforce. Started going to college more. More rights for African Americans- Integrated troops. German Nazi party was completely destroyed and Germany was broken up into 4 zones which became two countries, Japanese cities were destroyed from bombing and japan was placed under US military rule. Most deaths ever in a war. United Nations starts. Cold War-Us vs USSR. Lost 300,000 people in battle deaths. Germany lost 1.2 million. Not including wounded. 

Wednesday- Test over Germany

Thursday- Study day.

Friday- Finish Germany and Start Italy.
