1. What were the causes of the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression?

buying on margin(they would borrow from a broker), overproduction and underconsumption of goods(the wealthy were the only ones buying goods, businesses kept producing goods, stock went down), banks investing(took people's money, invested it in the market, started losing money, ended up closing), stock pools and watered stock(Wealthy people would buy stock for little cost, cause the price of stock to rise, sell stock at very high prices, didn't reflect business)

They had an unrealistic view of the marked, They had a weak banking system. The federal reserve system, when the bankers need money they go there to get money.

 

2. What impact did the stock market crash and Great Depression have on the lives of people in the United States?

Wealth and peace, Cities, Agriculture, and stock exchange. People started to move to places that have better job offers and it hurt the farmers. There was panic because of the withdrawing funds that the bank did. Black Tuesday was October 29, 1929 we lost 14 billion dollars that day and 30 billion that week. Some impacts were steel, construction, car sales, high debt and unemployment.They had to start selling everything because of people not having jobs because businesses having no money.




3. What did the United States government do to help alleviate the problems the Great Depression brought to our country? (new deal programs)



4. What were the causes of WWII?

when Britain and France declared war on Germany following Germany's invasion of Poland.Although the outbreak of war was triggered by Germany's invasion of Poland.



5. What impact did the United States have on WWII?

 

6. What were the goals for the US during the Cold War?

To stop the spread of communism. we wanted to prevent the spread of communism to the southern vietnam.

 

7. What were some of the major events that took place during the Cold War?

-Berlin Blockade- USSR blocked their part of Berlin from the US. we flew our planes over and dropped supplies for them,we didn't want war, we flew the planes over  Russia but they didn't want a war either and so they didn't shoot our planes down.

-Berlin Wall- USSR put up the wall to keep Communists in and others out  they didn't want their people to escape, knew it would make them look bad if they built the wall but if they didn't, all the people would leave for West Berlin, West was good because they got a new leader and let the wall down.

8. Why did the US go to war in Korea and Vietnam and what were outcome of those wars?

To stop the spread of communism they didn't want the North to take over the South. Korea remained separate, but after U.S. left, the North invaded the south but lost. Vietnam is still communist today

9. Know these major major post-Cold War Events:

JFK Assassination- in Dallas Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy first bullet hit him in the shoulder and hit the guy in front of him in the leg , the next two hit him, once in the throat and the other in his head and it went splat! many people believe it was a conspiracy

-Civil Rights- white rich males wouldn't hire blacks or women. Civil Rights in 1964 Eisenhower desegregated the army and schools and the Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, KS   acts to allowed blacks to go to the same schools and colleges as whites, so they were mixed.

-Watergate- happened under Nixon. spies went into the Watergate hotel and put bugs(wires) in the phones to gain information on it and they weren't caught the first time, but the second when they went back to fix a wire that wasn’t working and people believe that Nixon was behind it, and he ended up being behind it.

-Iran Hostage Crisis- Islamic Revolutionists took US people from an embassy and held them hostage the Islamic people were anti-West and didn't like the US being in their country

-Persian Gulf War (1991)- US was in there Iraq invaded Kuwait because they thought they were stealing oil from them we free Kuwait in a month  Al Qaeda attacked Kuwait

-9-11- Two planes flew into the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001 early in the morning another plane hit the Pentagon Al Qaeda was behind it Another plane was supposed to hit the White House

-War in Afghanistan- happened a month after 9/11  found out that Taliban was hiding Al Qaeda  they allowed them to live in their country  We invaded in October, other countries, but mostly US  We have established a democracy there

-War in Iraq- Saddam Hussein  had to allow weapons inspectors into his country  we took him down, he was put to death by Iraqi government.  we got out of their country in December 2011.

Water-boarding- Guantanamo Cuba  cover mouth with cloth and pouring water over mouth   sent more troops over to Iraq, and actually stopped the violence and now we were able to pull out
