Great Britain

  • 300,000 men had signed up to fight, and another 450,000 had joined-up
  • Reinforced with nearly 55 divisions
  • Artillery, machine guns, and rifle fire, infantry
  • Lewis light machine gun
  • Three tanks together would advance in a triangle formation, two rear tanks providing cover for an infantry platoon 

Allies

  • Triple Entente: Great Britan, France, Russia
  • Over 40 countries and dozens of colonies participated in WW1, 27 of which sided with the Allied Powers

Battles of Isonzo

  • Italy had an alliance with Germany at the time of WW1, and chose to be neutral at the start of the war. The allied powers pushed them out 

Battles of Ypres

  • The first battle of Ypers began Oct. 19th, 1914
  • Ypres was near the Marne river, which led into the English channel
  • Germans launched over 150 tons of lethal chlorine gas against two French colonial divisions

Battle of Verdun

  • Battle began on Feb. 21st, 1916
  • General Falkenhayn of the German army led the Germans to attack Verdun

Battle of Amiens

  • Amiens were not a specific group of battles, but another name for the 2nd battle of the Marne
  • The major point of Amiens was the Allies breaking through the German front lines

The German Spring Offensive

  • was a compilation of multiple German attacks in the western front
  • Germany realized that they needed to attack and achieve victory
