Britain

Germany lost the battle of Britain

Britain survived the bombardment because of the Royal Air Force whos planes were faster and small than the German planes so they beat them

Germany started bombing Britain at night because of the Royal Air Force

Mad Jack Churchill was an important leader during the war and was strange because of his use of a long sword and bow

Munich Conference- Britain gave Germany Czechoslovakia because nobody wanted war

Military- non draft army, started off slow in battles, then started fighting better and won many major battles

Ultra seeker- helped decode German messages

US

Main Leaders in war-FDR, Patton, MacArthur, Eisenhower

MacArthur- lead US against Japanese in the Pacific, known for his corncob pipe, and came back to Philippines to liberate them 

Patton- known for ivory handled pistols, fought in North Africa, and was a fierce leader

Dwight D. Eisenhower- commander of D-Day and North Africa and then became president

Tuesday- US

planted victory gardens, bought war bonds, and rosie was a figurehead to get women into work.

Why we helped the war: fresh soldiers, new equipment, and came in hard and fast

Pearl Harbor- Dec, 7, 1941, damaged ships were brought back into the war, killed 2,500 people, and Japanese attacked our main naval base.

D-Day- We took Utah and Omaha, delayed from weather, 9000 people killed, and eventually took them over.

Iwo Jima- Japanese island, heavy resistance, 26,000 killed, 17,000 wounded, and we won.

Battle of Midway- Mostly Naval battle, turning point in the war, and beat Japan.

Battle of the Bulge- Last major German offensive, attempted to split allied armies, we were caught off guard, fought in mountains, 20,000 killed, and 10,000's of m.i.a. or wounded.

Leyte War- Naval battle, destroyed much of Japan's naval forces, and helped us move towards Japan.

Okinawa- Last and biggest battle against Japan, major air bases at risk, Japanese held out for many weeks, and 10,000 killed.

Manhattan Project- Very secretive, led by US with help from UK and Canada, and was risky if Germany got it.

Wednesday- US

3 waves for Pearl Harbor and cancelled the 3rd because they thought they had enough damage.

Japan attacked to knock us down before we were in the war.

Japan attacked many other islands on Dec. 7 1941

Bataan Death March- up to 10,000 Filipino and 650 Americans died in the forced to march camp to camp in the Philippines.

Hiroshima bombing- uranium bomb

Nagasaki bombing- plutonium bomb

Battle of control of Atlantic ocean- sunk as many ships as possible

D-day-June 6, 1944

Radar-helps detect planes

HF/DF- helps detect subs

May 8th 1945 VE day

Thursday- US

OPA- controlled rationing, no extra food, clothes, gas, silk, toys, etc

Friday- movie
