February 23-27

Monday - I was sick today. The class quiz over South America was today and the overall quiz is tomorrow. 

Tuesday - I took the South America map test and got a 100% and we got our new maps over Asia. 

Wednesday - Finished verbal test and then we went over the US Constitution. We got out at 1:30 today.

Constitution

  • Was drafted in 1789
  • The US Constitution is a set of laws
  • The Constitution came about when we tried to leave Britain for Independence
  • The Constitution was written because they wanted change the Articles of Confederation
  • It gave to much power to the states
  • Separation of Powers is to keep the branches equal
  • Checks and Balance systems is to make sure the branches have equal power
  • James Madison was the "Father of the Constitution"
  • Two houses of Congress - Senate and House of Representatives
  • There are 100 Senators and it's two per state
  • There are 435 Senators in the House and the number is determined by the population of the state

  • A President can now serve 10 years as the most amount of time

    • died in beginning of 4th term

Thursday - We went over the Far East map and the Subcontinent map. We continued on our discussion about the Constitution.  We went over current events about the trial of the guy that killed the American Sniper. 

American Sniper 

  • He had PTSD
  • Best Sniper in military
  • He helped other veterans to get through his issues
  • Eddie Ray Ruth was killer
  • He killed Chris Kyle and another man 
  • Tried to plead insanity
  • Jury rejected insanity plea
  • He was found guilty

Friday - We did another two Asia maps and we went over the rest of the Articles. We went over new Current Events.

Net Neutrality

  • FCC made rules
  • People want equal internet
  • Big companies want to speed up internet for other big companies
  • Small companies gt their sites slowed down
  • People want to have the same internet speed as big companies

Article 3: Judicial Branch

  • Supreme Court Judges
    • Serve for life
    • Can be impeached
    • Judicial power rests with US Supreme Court
    • Other courts created by Congress
  • Important Powers
    • Decides cases of constitution law and federal law
    • Cases involving ambassadors go straight to Supreme Court
    • Judicial Review comes later (1803 - Marbury vs. Mdison)

Article 4: Relations Among States

  • States can access other states public records and judicial proceedings
  • Citizens of each are entitled to the same privileges as citizens foe very state
  • A person charged in any state, who flees from justice to another state, must be returned
  • New states may be admitted into the union by Congress, but NOT within the jurisdiction of another state or two states combining without consent of all involved
  • Congress has the authority and power to regulate all property in the United States
  • The United States Guarantees to States  a republican form of government, protection against invasion and domestic (internal) rebellion

Article 5: Amending the Constitution

  • The Constitution may be amended
  • Methods of Proposal
    • By 2/3 vote in both the House and the Senate
    • By national constitutional conventions called by Congress at the request of 2/3 of the legislative

Article 6: Power

  • The Constitution is the supreme law of the land

Article 7: 

  • The Constitution will be the law if nine states ratify it
  • All thirteen states ratified the Constitution between 1787 and 1790
