Which Twin is Older?

Typically the first born twin is the oldest but not in this case. Emily Peterson gave birth to twins during the day light savings change. Samuel was born at 1:39 a.m. and Ronan came 31 minutes later at 2:10. Because of the time change his official birth time is 1:10. Seth Petersen the twins father stated: “I said earlier that night that they were either going to be born on two different days or the time change was going to come into play."  The nurse that helped with the birthing said this is the first time this has ever happened, she has been doing this for forty years!

Daylight saving time confuses ages of twins

I think this is crazy and that this happened and that they did the correct thing in making Ronan's time earlier then his brothers because later on records won't make sense. I am sure these two will fight over who is older for the rest of their lives and it will be a good joke.  I would want them to change the time because of daylight savings. If I was the nurse I would be very confused and want to do the right thing and make sure everything is accurate.

Questions:

How confused would you be if you were the nurse writing down the birth times?

Would you want the nurses to change your child's time due to daylight savings?

  • Good story choice and well done!

  • I would be confused! It would be a weird situation!

I probably would like them to stay the same because technically the one should be born first.

  • I would probably be a little confused, but it wouldn't be too tough to figure out. I would be fine with them recording it accurately but I would definitely say that whoever was born first is older no question.

    • I think they also could of made it 3 instead of making him the oldest. If they would of just changed it to 3 then the oldest would be the oldest and the youngest would still be the youngest.

  • I would be very confused, because the one born first was, well, born first, but the one born second was, because of the time change, was born at an earlier time, even if he was born second. I probably would want them to take the daylight savings time into account, but just make sure to make a note of the daylight savings time. It would, like you said, make a good joke, but I feel like no matter what you do, it'll be confusing.

  • I would be a very confused nurse. I wouldn't understand exactly what was going on with the time change and everything. I would have the nurse keep the times even if daylight savings did occur it would be a good story for the child though.

  • I would be very confused if I were not there because one child was born first but the second one has an earlier time. I probably would have them keep it how it would have been without day-light savings time.

    • That is interesting that you would have them keep it what if they just made the time 3 so he was still the youngest and the times would match up to the daylight savings?

  • I would be so confused that I would probably end up having my superior do it because I would be worried about screwing up their birth certificate. I think I would want her to record my child as being second born even if daylight savings said differently since the kid did come out second. But this would be an interesting story to tell when they got older.

  • Im not sure how they would do that but i think i would just do it whatever way the parents would want it. No I would want they to stay the actually time it was.
