I had never realized before how affluence made people less critical of things in the 1950s. However, when there wasn't a consensus for what it meant to be an American, it is evident of how quickly people became critical of their African American neighbors. It made sense to me when the video talked about equal opportunity and how most people believed in it but never provided any.
