Tragedy in Gaithersburg

A plane crashed into a neighborhood in Gaithersburg, Maryland, killing six people: the pilot, two passengers, Marie Gemmell and two of her kids - 3 yr old Cole and 6 wk old Devon. The mother and her two children are survived by their father/husband and Marie's five yr old daughter. The two passengers were identified as David Hartman and Chikioke Ogbuka. The pilot was Michael Rosenberg. The mother and children died of smoke inhalation in their bathroom.

The crash set homes in the neighboring area on fire. The plane did not break apart until it came in contact with the ground. There is no evidence to suggest a bird got caught in the engine or that the engine failed. The landing gear was down when the plane crashed. The plane had been wobbling in the air and did a rolling dive right before the crash. The question is, why did the plane crash? This was also the second time the pilot had crashed trying to land in that particular airport in Maryland.

Two other homes were struck by the plane. Witnesses say they heard a loud boom and saw "a smoky, fiery scene." They then heard a second explosion.

On Monday, witnesses described a loud boom and later a smoky, fiery scene on the street. Two other homes were also struck by the plane.

I think this is a terrible tragedy and can't even begin to imagine what the family left behind could be going through. I hope I never have to. Speculations have been made as to why the pilot crashed, but that's all they are. Speculations. I have no clue.

What do you think caused the plane crash? How would you feel if you lost over half of your family to an unpredictable event?

  • I believe it was plane driver error

  • Frist it might have been a leek in the fuel that caught the plane on fire next i would sue what ever company's plane crashed and killed my family next i don't know what i would do

  • I don't think it was um-purpose for someone to crash their plane, but it is completely possible. I would feel either in shock or just plain upset if over half of my family died due to such ridiculous turn of events.

  • I would feel horrible like a part me had just died inside and cold never be replaced. And anything could have brought that plane down.

  • I have no idea what could have caused the plane to crash. It could have been anything. And I would be really sad if I would lose my family like that plus that it's unpredictable and I wouldn't know when it would happen

  • I would obviously feel sad but the hardest part would be wondering what caused the plane to crash im gonna have to say that the bird seems like a good bet and depending on the condition of the plane before flying that day would probably determine if the engine was the cause.

  • I think that the pilot might have had a heart attack and then the plane went down because of that. That is why I think that you should always have a co pilot incase something like this happens.

  • There seems to be a lot of mechanical problems with airplanes this is truley a tradgedy

  • It's scary why planes crash. But I would be devastated, that would be hard.

  • Either the plane had a problem or the pilot lost control but anything could have happened. I would feel terrible if i lost my family.
